Unhappy Help Needed with 93 KDX 200

    Hi,

I bought a 93 KDX 200 about 2 weeks ago. It's in good condition and going BUT it has no power at all. I cleaned the carburetor, new air filter, new spark plug. New gearbox oil. i also cleaned the petrol tank.

When i open the throttle the bike goes but as soon as i open the throttle a bit more the bike just stops.

Can anyone help or maybe let me know where i can get this fixed?

    Thanks

    hmmm...

    a few things to try

    A new plug

your reeds maybe on the way out.

    jettign maybe up the shit.

check that your exhaust isn't blocked.

you're doing all the right things though.

Worst case - power valve not working, Very common in KDX's.

I had the same promblem when i tryed to put bigger jets in the cardie of my "97", mine was a japa import, so it had a smaller cardie then the NZ new modles,
so when i put in oversized jets i just killed the bike when you open it fully up, just flooded the motor. had to put in smaller then standard jets to make the bike run good.
can't remember what size i ended up putting in ( maybe 118 sized jet) not to sure though. take your carbie to your local bike shop and should be able to tell you what size should be in it.

Now that you've paid for it call the seller and ask how long it sat around without being run b4 they sold it to 2. If they say long time then thats good.

Sounds likely fuel / carb from what you say in your first post.

You said you cleaned the carb ? So you took it out of the bike and stripped it totaly and cleaned gently and returned to same settings?

Take the fuel pipe off the carb off and turn on the tap - does it flow big time?

Put back togeather and take out the float bowl plug in the bottom and turn on the petrol tap - does it flow medium time?

    What is the float level?

Easy way to check if its an import is the petrol tank, if its steel its an import (or a very very rare NZ new road legel model which is restricted anyway)

Power valves can gum up on these early water cooled KDX's i would check their 1st after carb etc,

if you have no luck, give us a call at MR Motorcycles on 09 238 3176

    :-(

I took out the power valve and the read (how ever you spell it) valves were broken. So i bought some new ones. Installed it and there goes my bike. NOT it was going for around 20 min and then it died. I can't get it going again. I took out the carb and the power valve again. Put it back and still nothing. There's a load of oil coming out of my exhaust. Just now it started but it just died again. Can anyone think what’s wrong now?

if you have oil comming out the exhause sounds like something got put together wrong, or teh crank seal is rooted, but it sounds like a powervalve issue.

Oil will be fouling your plug too.

Ouch ur not avning fun are you. Its definitely a case of seals gone jus which one. If its from your gearbox( 2strokes combustion chamber and crank are in the same open mould and are only separated by the piston and rings) so if its using oil check your gearbox level. Have you changed the fuel from when you first brought it. Petrol evaporates over time until there is only oil, octane level drops too. Just go over your work again. Change the sparkplug too
