    Pulling a sickey

Woke up yesterday and couldn't face the thought of going to work so I called in sick, had a sleep in, then suited up and went for a ride.

Round the bays, up to the wind turbine then back round the bays and home. Nice to ride in daylight on dry roads instead of all the commuting in the dark and wet that I have been doing lately.

Now I can face the rest of the week.

Tis not a "sicky" - think of it as a "Mental Health Day"

    (Sometimes it's remarkably accurate...)

Only sucks when you run out of sick days....
Still, hasn't stopped me often. Mental health day is a good reference, just picks you up having a day to yourself sometimes.

Govt worker = unlimited sick days.
You can only have short term food poisoning for so many times though. Damn chicken-dishes. You'd think Id learn eh?

Exactly. I don;t mean to abuse it... but I know I get to "that point" and another day will drive me into survival mode... just making through the day.

A single day off - to myself - and I'm refreshed and a hell f a lot more productive.

    I'm convinced it's worth it.

I probably have one every 12 months or so though - not abused...

Wish I could show up to work once every three weeks... but then my connection to KB would be a lot slower...

The nasty inverse cycle, the more time you take off to ride, the less you can afford to ride. Sucks some serious kumara.

That bug mustve been going around because I had it too. And a fine day for a sickie it was.

Actually, looking out the window - I think I can feel it coming on again!

Thats what I told my boss, she agrees. Not sure if she would still agree if she knew I was out riding though

I've had 1 sick day in 5 years (and it was a sickie - I wasn't teaching) - I teach 5 day computer courses, so if I throw a sickie all the students have to come back another week to finish the course. Major hassle all round.
And if I'm not teaching that week I am studying new courses, or doing exams. So I end up catching up in my own time.
That is the one thing that sucks about my job.
