If they (government) are going to let people like him out on the streets time and time again... possibly ruined this kids life for a long long time to come, and all he gets is 3 years... out on parole on what... a few months? Back to his same old tricks.

The government should implement a system where if they ban someone from driving they should impound the vehicle until the person has proved they are going to sell the vehicle and not keep it.

Then a list should be generated, so finance companies, car dealers and the like will see when he wants to buy a new car that he is not allowed to drive... therefore stopping him from drink driving unless he borrows someone elses car, in which case when (not if) he re-affends, the person who owns the vehicle would know he had no license and so they should also be prosecuted for allowing his to use the car... they won't do it again... and it'll be harder for the guy to get behind the wheel...

If he re-affends again, let the family members of the kid have an hour with him alone... no consequences (sp)... because... he's not really paying his debt to society or the family...
I'm not a complete idiot... some pieces are missing

Ah, he hasn't changed a bit. I remember the time he got in trouble for burning down an old wooden bus shelter when he was pissed. His defense was that he was cold.

18 years later things obviously haven't changed. A bit worse even, some might say. Do society a favour.............

See, here's why most laws end up failing. Cos they only work with people who are basically law abiding anyway.

If I'm the sort of person such a law would be aimed at, what on earth makes you think I'm going to BUY a car? When there's heaps and heaps to be had for free in every supermarket car park. Just help yourself. Law ineffectual.

The people in the car are just a guilty. They should have the same sentence.

time for some vigilante justice? you know the arsehole's name, and where he lives (Dorkland), and roughly when he will be out (one year i.e. 1/3rd of sentence).

Some of you auks need to be outside the prison and give him a .44 caliber "Welcome back to the real world arsehole" welcome.

Quick trip to the 2nd-hand shop would do the trick!

but I'm a Singaporean biker... I'll be campaigning for an ability based licence system allowing different speeds depending on demonstrated ability level, displayed on bike rego and license for both cars and bikes and speed limit free zones (autobahn styles).

EDIT: Oh yeah, and tax cuts

pointless and unworkable: he wont be driving a nice car it will be some piece of shit that he has bought from one of his mates or the faaarnau. all your suggestion does is penalise law abiding citizens... like most laws.

I'm with you there. but why keep the fucker in prison: it costs me (the taxpayer) fifty large a year to do it, and its sure as shit nicer than whatever rat infested squat this fucker inhabits.

.303 right between the eyes. Option given to the kid he hit, or his immediate family to be the trigger man. Id pull the trigger in a heartbeat.

    in a heartbeat.

I think our judges need to harden up a little and deal to these pricks with a few more sentences of this nature...
If you read the actual article, it is consecutive sentences - 10 months for the drink driving, to be served concurrently with 10 weeks for breach of community service PLUS 2 years, 3 months for the hit and run, to be served concurrently with a sentence of 12 months for failing to stop, for a grand total of 3 years 1 month.

The real problem is people like the driver who do not give a shit about the consequences of their actions. Jail isn't going to change them. And there is nothing else that will stop them.

I can think of one thing . Not only that the fucker might have some useful organs which could be donated to decent people (unlikely I admit.. he is after all a recidivist pisshead so you know, the liver is probably shot, but something might be ok.. he is only 36 this turkey).

Our judges were all lawyers once, need I say more? (It was a long time ago when they lived in the 'real' world.)

When was the last time anybody got the maximum sentence?

Where is the 'deterent' value of a sentence these days?

There is a problem with that arguement - where do you draw the line?

Off to the organ banks for exceeding the speed limit? I think Larry Niven actually wrote a few stories around that concept IIRC.

the best punishment for arseholes like that is to hypnotise them and tell them that whatever fluid they drink, except for plain water will make them vomit and be violently ill. It will work and then this dumb fuck can only drink water for the rest of his life.....that and castration with a rusty old spoon and a good kick in the teeth!!!
