Usually more cylinders = more power, only because the cylinders, conrods and valves are lighter and can thus be moved at higher engine speeds. If you're prepared to use exotic materials, then a twin can produce as much peak power (e.g. WSB Ducatis).

Comfort: V-twins are not necessarily more comfy (depends on the specific model e.g. Ducati 916-998 are not know for their comfort levels).

Torque: IL4s can be tuned to produce as much or more low-end torque as a V2 e.g. a Bandit 12s, GSX1200-1400s etc.
On the flip side, V2s can be tuned to be sporty and peaky e.g. VTR1000SP1
In fact, the new jap supersports litre IL4s have the best of both worlds (although a Ducati 999R would put up a good fight too).

Cost: Jap IL4s are cheaper than Italian V2s, but more expensive than Jap IL4s only because no R&D gets put into Jap V2s anymore (due to WSB rule changes allowing litre IL4s). When the Honda VTR1000SP came out, it was more expensive than the Fireblade though..

That article is as true now as it was 13 years ago, like harleys are as fast now as they were 10 years ago.(actually they have found some HP over the last decade, but they had to buy it off porsche)

I guess I'll just have to suffer the almost zero depreciation, the admiring looks, the deep rumble of the zorst and the good fuel economy in compensation for the 'lack' of performance

And like your bikes were all original thoughts too?????

Your bikes wobble all wrong, the side-to-side shake is a little disconcerting but other than that they're almost as good as a Harley!!

For a biker, he just doesn't get it, does he? Who ever said bikes were all about logical analysis of the pros and cons? Who said a high revving four is "better" than a slow revving v-twin? They're completely different for different purposes!

Bikes are about emotional pleasure and we are all different. I happen to think the 1200 Sporty is a sweet bike and I'd buy one right now if I could afford it! I've liked the T-Sport since it was released, too. I love the style and the sound, which, coupled with the modern reliability and better comfort they've put into it, is enough for me. I love riding my old 'F', too, the sound of the little four on song is rather addictive and it handles, goes and stops as well as I can exploit. Different strokes for different folks and as long as we love what we're riding and enjoying ourselves, lets get out more and do it!

I ride with mates who have among them, 2 V-Rods, a Softail, an 800 Marauder and 955 Daytona. We respect each other and have fun when together, and isn't that what it's all about? The twit who wrote the article needs to take a happy pill!
You don't get to be an old dog without learning a few tricks.

Those who insist on perfect safety, don't have the balls to live in the real world.
