Given the choice . . . I went with none of them. Dont get me wrong, I got a lot of respect for them and what they can do, but they just seem to be lacking somehow. I dont want to use the term "no soul" cause its the same wanky shit that all riders with Aprilia's/Ducati's/Moto guzi's/etc spout forth. And if anything, I think its the other way around - its not that they have no soul, its just that they dont tug at my soul.

But, seeing as those are the four options I guess I'll give them a rating.

So, my choice, on looks - the R1. Every day. To look at, its sultry, its sexy, its the bike you're proud to take home to meet Mum. The CBR looks like a bike. Nothing more, nothing less. The GSXR I think looks good too, but I'm sick of looking at it. It'll turn my head again when they redesign it and for a short period it wont be every second bike I see on the road. And as for the ZX? Well, if I caught a fish that ugly I'd cut the line just so I wouldnt have to share the boat with it. And the green - oh dear lord, that green . . . someone needs to tell them that if they want to go green, there are far better shades than that one.

For the last couple of years, from all accounts the GSXR is the one to go for if you want the fastest way around a track. But, at the end of the day, if we were stuck with just those four options, I'd take an R1. While I hate to pick a bike solely on looks, I just wont ever find the limits on any one of them, so the fact that one is a poofteenth faster on a lap is not of huge importance to me. And the R1 is no longer the bike you see on every corner, where as the GSXR is.

Which is proof that in terms of marketing, specifications sell bikes, plain and simple. Meanwhile, I'm happy with my Italian mistress. She may have cost me more than a Jap thou, and in a straight line she may not be as fast. But the way she looks in that red and silver dress, and the way she sings to me . . . nothing Japanese can trigger lust like that. And that, my friends, is what stirs my soul.

LOL, well, that's what its all about - what stirs your soul!

Assuming you've gone and got yourself a new gixxer, then its gotta be the perfect bike for you. You're a demon for the track, and that's what they're good for. I aint so quick, nor have the track orientened focus, so my wants are different.

Like I say tho, still got a lot of respect for those bikes, cant believe just how far they have developed. Cant wait to see whats coming out over the next few years to be honest, especially when you look back at what was cutting edge 10 years ago and how its just so dated now.

    What a silly poll

Why isn't the SV1000 or V-Strom on this list? And why just pick on the Jappas and ignore the various Cagiva, Aprilia, Ducati and MV models that weigh in at 1 litre?

Simple, because they're in a different market of course. There's no way I'ld consider an SV or strom, and the europeans are way outside my price bracket.

No not at all, does it piss you of that we spent a 1/3 of what you did for a bike that'll run rings around yours?

Btw, ever see the Toyota Supra giving the Ferrari the learn in 'The fast and the furious'?

(and yes it's a gay film but that's not the point)

Because the SV and V-Strom are shite. And the Italian bikes aren't there because it's the 'Best Jap Litre Bike 06' poll, not the 'Best Litre Bike 06' poll. Maybe the OP doesn't give a fuck about overpriced Itai bikes? Who knows...
