    Cool A bit of advice

Got my son a little bike to learn on, thought id get my self one as well ( havent been on a bike for 20 + years) my last bike all those years ago was a xr 250, so why not just get another 250 this time a yz 250. big mistake, way to fast for a old fart, breaking the sound barrier not my thing any more.I did how ever like the mx style bike.
what i want advice on is would a 125 yz , cr , etc be suitable for someone my age and weight ( 97 kg ).i only want to spend about $2500 and i see that bikes of that type are going for about that. any advice would be great as i dont want to make the same mistake again.
    Many Thanks

just my opinion but i think two strokes are just nasty..would be looking for an XR etc if it was me,plenty of XR250s to be found for resonable money and much easier to handle than the two stroke.

Def. stay with 4 strokes. Mid '90 XR250 perfect and at $2-2.5 price would be right

    Welcome to the nuthouse.

125 mx bikes are peaky little angry hornets. better off looking for another XR or if your keen on a 2smoker, a KDX200 fairly docile & reliable jack of all trades enduro

Other options are the Kawasaki KDX200 and KLX250/300. Both very good bikes. My pick would be the KDX.

I own a KDX and I recommend them, gotta keep on top of the maintenance though. the XR is a great bike too and a bit more resilient IMO.

I second that opinion...but would go for the klx250/300 first...they are sooo hard to break!!! and soooo bloody reliable!!
