Whats the best Hawk Detector?

Going for a nice blat this morning and almost got nailed by a hawk. And only just avoided it. The stupid feckin thing was having a munch, heard me coming then flew directly in front of me then started weaving around in the direction I was heading. Just missed going up under my front mudguard by about 3 cm.

This has the third time one of the dumbarse birds has almost got me. Last time one tried to decapitate me at 200kph.

Why do they always fly in front of the bike??????

ha the joys of rural motorcycling the sods always head across the road because its the clearer path for them to get airborne again.

best thing is to aim where they've been not where their going, don't go round the front of them they only fly in one direction forward not reverse.

they are trying to knock you off so they can have a good feed

Used to be able to get these little, say, 3 or 4cms long silver whistle type things back in Oz that you attached to your bumper or bullbar/roobar and they, wait for it....whistled when you were up at speed and they'd scare off kangaroos, cattle and probably birds too. The whistle is too high pitched for the human ear I think otherwise it's piss you off real quick. Having said all that I never owned a vehicle with one it. Had a ShuRoo device on one car that really worked - ran off the battery tho.

Hmm. Perhaps it's not a 'Hawk Detector' you need but a 'Hawk Deflector' ?

They are a fairly predicatble bird,I have no problems with them.You aren't the first person to disturb them from the road kill,they will have a perch sorted where they'll go and watch until the road is clear again.So that's where they'll go....they get up about a metre then go off to the side - just give them time,watch and ride around.

Yeah, I had to literally "duck" recently to miss one. When I see them (or dogs for that matter) up ahead, I toot, - that seems to get them outta the way ahead of time.

I normally just sound the horn when I've spotted one and slow down abit, normally give's 'em time to gain some height

I did an early morning trip from Taupo to New Plymouth once (a mistake, it was too cold around Taumarunui) I had no idea there were so many hawks, I must have had to dodge about a dozen of the bastards...
