Tyre choice for adventure riding? (Mixing road and off-road)

I've twice used Pirelli MT60 110/90-17 on the back of the KLR and they have performed pretty well. Obviously crap in mud but dryish dirt, gravel etc they do all right. Wear rate is not too bad even with a few days worth of camping gear on the back.

No problems on sealed road either, and the price is hard to beat.

I’m running one at the moment. Narrow profile makes up for the lack of knobs, as it digs through the gravel to the hard stuff. Makes the bike turn in quick on seal also. Don’t think I’d want to run a wide profile one of these though.

The MT60 probably lasts a little longer than the ’crap shit turds’ but there’s not much in it.

I got an MT90 on the front of the TDM mis matched with a Shinko 705 rear. The Pirelli runs out of profile before the Shinko but has never let go, unlike the Shinko. No chicken strips on the front.. On wet seal the rear is relatively easily provoked, the front sticks like poo to the blanket, I practice emergency braking in the rain.. I know this to be true. MT90 on gravel is predictable & scrabbles for grip longer than I anticipate, it consistently exceeds my expectations on wet clay & gravel tracks up here, through corners & on the brakes, the Shinko does what the throttle tells it. Should really try a matching pair, i love the front.

Nay lad, very happy with it. But it's a compromise tire, won't grip like a sports tourer on wet roads & won't grip like a knobby off em. What it does do very well is tell you when to stop leaning or twisting the throttle, politely & before it takes the huff. The Pirelli is a more expensive brand, high silica compound, different tread pattern & will be shagged at the same time as the 705. For me it's a good combination, be a very good combination if they had matching profiles. Poor shinko has chicken strips, the front don't. The odd twitch on wet road paint, diesel or that shiny stuff is totally forgivable, my bike has a weight problem & a lorra torque. I reckon if I had an MT90 rear it would need replacing now, the shinko just looks middle aged, bulging at the edges but worn on top.

No issue here.

A bike with that much torque could be forgiven for over powering even the mighty 705.

on second set of e07's for super t.... great tyre but they loose pressure over 3-4 weeks on as tubeless...anyone else have that prob?

I did with the front... until I put tubeless bead sealer on... have no more probs,

I've done a deal with Red Barron Motorcycles for 3 dr650 bash plates in exchange of a set of Continental TKC80 Tyres. Putting them on my 650 v storm so only costing me a small amount of time

Hi thanks. I was looking on cycletreads but is hard to find an 18' rear which is road oriented. I have currently the Metzeler and like to try something else for not particular good reason other than comparing. Ultimately main use is commuting.

I used to get 10K + from the AT90 fronts on my 990 and 6-7k from the rears and I'm not kind on tires. They are an 80/20tire (80% road 20% off road) so pretty good for what your looking for...and cycle treads has them on special which is handy.

Would vouch for MT90's as exceptional road biased trail tires, my mileages are about the same, am stretching my 3rd rear to the carcase to try get 7k now, they can go another 2 or three if you stay off the metal though and would expect you get a lot more on something less aggressive than RC8 engined bike

Must be a good tire if you can strech 7k out of it
