Quick question. Expected mileage from a shinko 704? It's the rear on the DT 230. Probably ridden 50/50 gravel & tar seal and not overly enthusiastically.
The tire is over half worn and my best guess is that it has travelled not a lot more than 1500 km.
It's the middle 2/3s that are nearly poked which leads me to think we are not trying hard enough.
I'm not fazed, it's a cheap(ish) tire but more taken aback at how quickly it's smoothing.

how much longer can I expect a t63 to last than a kenda 270 on back of my 12 wr450(it's 1/3 more expensive ,,,must last longer)P.S bike has one of those light switch throttles!!
Trying to decide on what tyres to run for trip to do dusty butt next year=1000km tarseal>1000km of db1 >1000km home ...am I being optimistic to try do it on one set of tyres....maybe I should try e07's??
I shagged an AC10/S12 combo just doing the DB part from ChCh. I'm sure the E07 would do the miles but if you want to do the Challenge sections, which I would highly recommend if your on a 450, then the least knobbly I would suggest would be an E09. I spoke with a 950super enduro rider last time who thought E09 insufficient for the task and was wearing C02s (full MX/enduro style knobblie). He had travelled from the NI to do the Rally but I do not know if the whole trip was done on a single set of C02. Of the 4 super enduro I saw I understand just 1 completed all the challenge sections. It is surely an impressive effort to get any big twin over the Awakino but probably top marks go to the riders of the 1150GS Rallaye and of the V-Strom who made it over the top!
Very we'll done!
I'll shall try the same this year if my Elefant is ready in time....
P
I'm guessing that level of wear is fairly typical.

Rear E07 at 16-18psi (rim lock) would be sweet for all the challenge sections.
Pair it with a Pirelli MT21 at 18psi on the front (no rim lock needed).
If it's not wet, then 705's would even be fine...
I'm doing the dusty next year on my 650 v strom and will be using conti tck80 front and rear. I doubt I will do the Awakino challenge as I don't think the v strom rims will not cope to well. This I am gutted about as I really loved that part of the ride .At the moment I'm running Shinko e705. They have lasted me well but are useless in grass and mud.
