    Supermoto? Why? this is why....

A bit of a debate got going on another forum as to why would you buy a supermoto? This pic popped up, and fuck it's some cool shit, how'd you feel about that going round the outside of you.

I watch the FIM world champs when i can and it's on, and i want a motard bad, oh well when i get some money.

Anyhow, enjoy the pic, its my wallpaper now. Mmmmm me wants DRZ400SM in black sitting in the garage.

I miss my old KX80 Motard, so I'm (hopefully) trading in the CBR for a WR450

Don't go for a DRZ.... they are to fat and heavy for a motard, and not the amazingly powerful either... go for a Husaberg FS650... 25kg's lighter and 40bhp more powerful....

Seriously COOL bikes!! I'd love one but dont think I could throw it around like that, but with some practice.....anything's possible.

Watched them at Taupo a few months back and that Steven Briggs is HOT!!!

He's right. The DRZ is more of a entry level commuter Supermotard.

By the way, Supermotard is dirt bikes riding on road tracks, Supermoto is dirt bikes riding on special tracks that are part road, part dirt

What would make a good day to day rider for commuting, I would prob use a supermotard, also I dont think I would want more than 500cc.
Is there anything out there that fits in this bracket??

    As far as I know:
    Honda CRF450X
    Yamaha WR450/426
    KTM 450EXC
    KTM 525EXC
    Gas Gas EC400
    Gas Gas SM400
    Husqvarna 450SMR
    Husqvarna TE450
    Husaberg FE450
    Husaberg FS450
    VOR EN450

Thats a few off the top of my head, some are enduros that will need road tyres. Don't exclude bikes over 500cc though. They might make better bikes on the motorway

I am going to give it a bash next summer as the heat here is to much for MX and 2 months with out racing killed me this year ,,,,,

BUT ...have you seen the price of those wheel rims ...cost more than me bike !!!!
I am going to use my trusty FrankenCR ....and I have a plannnnnn...ahhhh hahaha
The plan is ..well the frame is the base point and everything else is upgradeable ..so ,,,I will just up grade when I spot the bits cheap on Ebay ,,, my next plan is to up grade the front end as I am at its limits ,,

Then a ( if it will fit ) a CR500 engine ,,,ohhhh yes ,,,Stand back folks its FrankenCR,,,and it was cheap to start with ,,,,

That should be more than enough !!!

and who cares if I crash ,,,cos the bits are old and dirt cheap to buy !!!

I've always thought that super retard bikes are for the dirt bike riders that could never learn to control a road bike properly.

Still, since I enjoy riding road bikes on mud tracks, i've kept my eye on them as well (I like the idea of doing woops - doesnt seem to work on roab bikes so much).

Anyhow, supermotard is the bike, supermoto is the event and a motard track is both half dirt and half moto track (dirt with all the jumps n bumps). It often gets confused with the old Supermoto (pre 90s) that is now called something similar to motocross.
The contents of this post are my opinion and may not be subjected to any form of reality
It means I'm not an authority or a teacher, and may not have any experience so take things with a pinch of salt (a.k.a bullshit) rather than fact

There seems to be no hard and fast rules here, so we will when ever possible use these rules...If we use the term "SuperMoto", we are referring to racing being held on both road race and dirt bike sections a la The Word SuperMoto series. For racing on road race circuits only and general road riding we will use the term "SuperMotard" Where an article is relevant to both, we will default to the term SuperMotard.
It says there is no set definition but it sounds about right
