Does riding at 70-80kph in a 50kph residential area impress you?

Well it doesn't impress me. So, to the guy on the Hornet who rides like that along Beach Rd, Harbour View Road and Te Atatu Road at about 8am every morning, you're riding does not impress anyone and when you finally lose control of your bike, fall off and put at risk the lives of MY kids who are walking along there at that time, you'd better hope that I'm nowhere near you.

It's riders like you that give all riders a bad name.

    Rant over.

Don't worry about it mate, its unlikely that a bike will plough off the road and kill a pedestrian....you don't hear of it happening.
None of your business how he rides, he may be a far more capable rider than you! If you have a problem, call the cops.
If it was a Rav4 or something then I'd worry.

Lol, it's not that he normally winds me up, 'cause he does it every day, it's just when he chooses to intimidate me by riding close to my drivers side door and nearly clipping my car like he did this morning that it pisses me off. I am rarely in the cage but one of my kids was sick this morning so cage it was briefly.

His behaviour reflects poorly on all of us and I don't care how competent a rider he is.

Oh, and I have never been known to shirk from calling the cops about poor driving/riding. I ain't no saint, but when I want to go fast I choose the right time and place.

Ah, I see theres more to the story
Drive into him with your cage next time, may as well give him something to moan about, cage drivers being crap etc. Just mention to him that you didn't see him as you were on the cellphone and drinking a Latte

Bingo! Anyone can ride fast, some can do it and be safe but when other elect to emperil me and mine - yes... expect me to get pissed off.

Tracks are good for going fast and competing - show how you you are, against other that want to do the same. Roads can be fun and if you're alone and the only one you put at risk (physical and financial) then go for it.

Keep the speed down when kids are around. I want to encourage parents to let their kids walk to school. To do this they have to have the perception that it is reasonably safe.

    Right place, right time.

[Edit:] strange poll, i don't really ride under 50kph, but I do *normally* try to stay under 62kph-ish....

It does if they are on one wheel!!!!!!

Nah seriously I find it hard as hell to do 50, the ducati gearing is really tall, it will do it in second but it can get away on ya in about .5 of a sec.
In saying that I tend to keep to the speed limit in built up areas........mostly
Ive run out of fucks to give

No that'd be because anything only capable of 50 would get her killed on the Motorway, and anything capable of keeping her alive ion the motorway would fall foul of your argument.

    What was your point again?

I voted yes cause I'm assuming you mean within the 10kph tolerance?

Put it this way, I try to ride in a manner that will keep me safe (from both accidents and taxes). My speed is just relative to that, with a margin occaisionally (and cautiously) added for the "enjoyment" factor.

Ya gotta remember that with these plastic rockets, you can't go under 70-80kmh at all, cos the weight on your wrists puts your hands to sleep and then your grip on the bars tends to get tighter and cos you can't feel your fingers you end up going even faster than you intended to in the first place.

I've heard that 110kmh is necessary most times as that is when the the wind blast becomes sufficient to take the weight of your wrists in order for the rider to maintain a safe cruising speed and also helps the ergonomics which boosts comfort levels considerably.

    That's what I've heard, anyways???

Considering the reckless speed this hoon was doing, there's a fair chance he originally started out at 50kmh and his hands went to sleep and when he passed you he was struggling to get some life back into his mawkers so as not to upset you, but found he was totally out of control. Poor bugger. Must have been real frightening for him. When he came up behind you, did you happen to notice how white his face was and big his eyes were??

I'll close the door on my way out okay?
If the destination is more important than the journey you aint a biker.
