    The Importance of Proper Boots

Great morning commute, traffic was sparser than normal, weather wasnt too bad, generally a good ride.

But coming through stationary traffic up to a set lights. they went green while I was still a car behind the front of the cue. I moved to put myself infront of the cue since of course I would move faster than the car infront of me, the vehicle to the right of me however turned to the right and somehow I found myself against the back of his car with my foot riding his wheel up into the wheelarch. This was all at lowish speed so my instinctual 'dont hesitate; accelerate!' tatics allowed me to free my twisted foot from the vehicle and continue my journey unattached to other moving vehicles. not saying that my foot was usable for the rest of the ride of course.

The main thing I was thinking shortly after my encounter was how lucky I was my foot wasnt broken which would soley be because of the sturdy protective boots that I see many a rider without. If you ride without protective footwear, next time your travelling at 50 put your foot on the ground and see how strong they feel. Ankle protection is really important, I am quite certain my foot would be broken or fractured if I was wearing something without ankle support and protection.

    Thanks for reading

You are not wrong there! That foot looks pretty swollen - keep it elevated with some ice on it.
Diarrhoea is hereditary - it runs in your jeans

If my nose was running money, I'd blow it all on you...

PRICE: prevention/protection - rest - ice - compression - elevation - trust me it works.. get yourself booked in to a decent physio ASAP too, even if the Dr thinks you won't need it.
    Cheers

Strewth mate, you are one lucky bugger.
There's a limit to how you go about saving gas. Trying to hitch a ride with your foot in a wheel arch is taking things a bit far don't you think??

If the destination is more important than the journey you aint a biker.

Cripes! Looks like you're right and your boots saved the day. I am a new rider, but one thing I definitely did not skimp on was gear. If something happens, I don't want to be relying on a cheap pair of No. 1 Shoe Warehouse boots and regular jeans!

Thanks for the info - I hope your foot gets better soon.

You were lucky Reminded me of my incident lane splitting....c/p from another thread...

Looong time ago I was splitting the lanes at a red light. Was a red commodore at the front of the left lane and a ute towing a tandem trailer in the right. As I got to the front, the lights turned green when the dipshit in the commordore opened his door right into me.. The force pushed me and my bike onto the wheels of the tandem trailer that had just taken off at the lights, and we were stuck there being dragged down the road. My leg fit perfectly between the two wheels. Luckily the driver felt the impact and realised what was happening, pulled over and stopped. some friendly people helped pull my bike off the side of the trailer but as they did the radiator popped open and there was a huge dent in the tank, but didn't puncture it. The only damage to the commodore was two fingernail size paint chips on the edge of the door! And he was a panelbeater!
I was gutted to say the least, but I had just taken the fairings off to be painted so at least they were saved. I was 5 months pregnant and that was the only thing that kept me off my bike til after my girl was born.
Put me off splitting lanes at the lights for a while anyway.

    Cool

Arnica cream all over your foot...
    And rest it...

I know the feeling mate... I had a very heavy car run over my foot...
and damaged the buckle on my Harley Davidson boot..
My foot was black and swollen within seconds... and was sore for weeks...

Just like the helmet rule. $10 head buy a $10 helmet.
Goes the same with all protective gear. Some people baulk at the cost, but the cost of not using the right gear can be huge.

Came across a site some time ago that had stats on broken bones. Foot and ankle were easily the most common. Sites no longer exists.
