I used to have a road legal Cow (XT400) if that counts.
She now lives(?) somewhere north of here.

But it would be interesting to see what you can get away with...
dangerous is a very subjective term...

OK, I'd fit a holster rather than weld it on.

There's a guy on the XT225 forum whose mods include a holster for a 28" machete for dealing to rabid dogs and the wing mirrors of errant taxis...

The spinning metal blades attached to your axles would probably be a no-no but I can't thnk why as they allow spinning hubcaps on cars and they're bloody dangerous from the point of view of not knowing if the car has actually stopped at the intersection.

The rules about what is (and is not) acceptable are mental anyway - flashing tail lights are "a good idea for increasing awareness" for a push bike but "dangerous as they are likely to cause confusion" on a motorbike and spinners are perfectly acceptable on cars despite creating confusion.

    Ah, the infamous "cow patty".

Still, it was a 400, you should really be able to hoof it once you got it going.

I saw a tourer once that whenever he touched the brakes about 4 red brake lights started flashing similarly to an ambulance does (fast flash then switch to the other diagonal fast flash)

Yes we could all see the brake lights (the back of this bike was probably the size of a small car for starters!) but they were really annoying.

This was earlier this year not ages ago too

Don't like the idea of flashing brake lights and I'm not saying that flashing tail lights are a good idea, I just think the multiple standards exhibited by the LTSA are fucked. Either flashing tail lights are helpful in alerting people, in which case they should be legal for all vehicles or at least all "bikes", or they are distracting and confusing and should be outlawed across the board. Other misleading and confusing things should also be banned while they are at it - spinners for example - or they should STFU and let people bling out their vehicles as they like - flashing lights, spinners etc "so long as there are no white lights to the rear or red lights to the front" (the only part of their regs that seem to make sense).
