YAY, the NZ Herald got it right for once

if you buy a copy of the NZ Herald today or get to see a copy at work, have a look on the back page of super wheels.
Since motobike and moped sales are soaring, they have dedicated a page to motorbikes, this week its motorcycle safety, next week accessories.

I can't find a link on the web site to this page in the actuall paper, but it notes points like:

Always wear a helmet with a visor or protective eyewear and pay as much as you can for a good lid.

Wear protective gear with amour if you can afford it to save your skin and wear boots with good ankle protection and gloves.

Clothing with reflective tape is good

Obey the speed limit... pffft as the human body is not designed to bounce

Treat all road users as you would a great white shark - with fear and trepidation. Don't asume they can see you, as nearly two thirds of all bike accidents are caused by a driver violating a riders right of way

and a few more tips, like look left and right before going on a green light because cars run red lights and can hit you and when riding 2 up, the bike dynamics change and to make allowances.

so for once, the Herald has done bikers proud.

Oh my god, sensible advice from the media that isnt making us out to be baby eating monsters. Next you'll be telling me Uncle Helen is keeping promises. Isn't this one of the signs of the apocalypse?

there's a picture of a Vespa courtesy of Hawke's Bay Times. You can see some dude and the shadow of the photographer in the reflection on the back of the mirror.

Nooooooo! The harold always gets it wrong. Joe Public will be reading this right now and thinking - car drivers cause bike accidents 'cause they're hard to see? Rubbish, it's in the herald it can't be right!
