Want some feedback (honest if there is such a thing), I am debating a GSXR 1000, CBRR, ZXR, or Triumph Daytona 955i.

I have read shitloads of mags, and that has got me no where!

So I would like to hear honest gripes and pluses from people who actually own these beasts.....

Yeah, read a few posts about them falling apart, but they do have a nice arse, and I like a nice arse.

Am quite fond of the Gixr, but those headlights, yuk. The blade and ninja both look better from the front, but neither have the cred.

What are you looking for out of your bike? ie, what things are important to you and what kind of riding do you do?

Are you looking at brand new or 2nd hand? Is there a reason you missed out the R1?

Personally I've seen a couple of 05 ZX10R's going for 12-13k which I think are the best deals going at the moment by far.

I ride daily to work, and on weekends when I can, long or short, quik or slow, just ride whenever I can. Have done 3600km on the Katana in 3 and a bit months.

I'm looking for a bike that is the business....to say, something that looks good, has street cred, doesn't cost me a bucket load in fix ups, has good support, goes like snot on a hot hot day, um, and one that can go with me as my talent and experience increases.

Am looking to buy new, trade the Katana towards the end of the year, it was only intended to be a stepping stone, something to ride till I could afford the bike I want.

R1 was left out cause most people say they are crap, and with the others, there is plenty to choose from.

I don't think that the R1 is crap at all. In fact, there probably isn't a crap sports bike on the market at present from any of the main manufacturers. The only disappointment you'll have is if it doesn't suit your purpose. The R1 might be less comfortable on a long haul than a Daytona for example and certainly less comfortable for a pillion. If you're only interested in doing two or 3 hundred ks per day, it probably doesn't matter. Buying the Blackbird was a conscious decision because I wanted something with real mumbo which wouldn't be too far behind my mates with true sport bikes in the tight stuff, but would tour two up over long distances. Once you've determined what you really want to use it for, Cajun's comments on another thread were spot on... "It's what pushes your boat out", i.e. your gut feeling just looking at it.

I daily comute, but that isn't riding. Did around 400ks last Saturday, that was a blast.

I go 2 up now, but my GF has just got her own bike, so plan not to be doing too much of that moving forward.

Do you know much about the Daytona? Is it more of a tourer than the others? Haven't seen anything comparing it to the main stream jappers.

The Daytona neither has the grunt nor the sharpness of handling of the sports Jappas but it's well put together and perhaps not so cramped. All the tests I've seen rate it highly. A 'bird-owning mate in Auckland had one in the UK for several years and loved it to bits. I like its looks very much indeed and wouldn't be too worried about the performance difference against the Japs. It sounds better too! It's still good for about 250+km/hr which should be just about adequate

The triple is a nice motor, better in the low and mid range than a 4cyl (imho)
making it more pleasant at legal speeds. The few Daytonas I have ridden I enjoyed but really you have to try one to see if fits your personal taste. The new Sprint ST is very nice also.

Supporting your assessment, there is a mini-test against Jap 600's in the June edition of Performance Bikes which I picked up this morning. It was second overall on lap times, very slightly slower than the others in the 0-100 mph stakes and faster in top gear roll-on from 40 mph to 120mph by a good margin. It makes more torque at 3000 rpm than the R6 does at 10000 rpm!

So there you are - they love it.

"Cred"? Ok...I must be old or something man...ok,maybe just defensive What's this cred thing mate...
Agreed re the gixxer's headlight too...one of the main reasons why I didn't buy one,apart from every other bugger(er) has one.
However I got to say that they'd be a more comfitable bike over distance compaired with the ZX's..fact.
No sure with any of the other models as haven't had the experience so basically,as mentioned before, if it makes "it" move...buy it

By cred, I mean credability. Blade apparently has shit after sales service, and plenty of warranty problems. Ninja, too light and not as good at handling, plastic tank? The GSXR has the performance, speed, handling and been voted best bike comparatively for last 2 years, so I've read.

The thing is, the cred I'm aplying is based on reviews, not by people that own them, ride them day in day out, which is who I'm interested in hearing from. Most bikes are fab straight out of the box, it's not till they've done a few k's that the cobwebs clear and the real problems show themselves.

Ok, I still get hard on for my gixxer having owned 3 in the last 12 months and covered about 30,000kms on them combined.

I'm riding my 750 at the moment but everytime I getback on the thou it just feels like home.
