Bent forks on the fxr

went for a warrant today, and they failed me for a bent fork, rh at the top supposedly (i couldn't tell other than the steering was a little skewed)
so had to strip the front down, removed the forks which was educating. Dad's mate suggested i take the chrome tube to an engineers and get them to press it straight. sweet i say, cept I cant seem to be able to remove the chrome tube from the outer, thicker part of the fork (outer tube?) that connects to the wheel. Any ideas? I got it open, took the oil, spring etc out, but cant remove the chrome tube. Short of that I'll send it to the bike shop to get it fixed. ( wasnt too keen to send it to them, as they charged me $700+ for my last bent forks, left a scar.)

There's a cap screw you have to undo in the bottom of the fork leg which holds the damper rod,tip the fork upside down and have a look at the bottom of the fork leg and you should see it

Sometimes you need a impact gun as the damper rod will just spin with the cap screw or you can jam a broom handle or something down inside the leg to hold it

If you were in Auckland i'd recommend going to Spectrum motorcycles and paying cash It may be worth you money rather than spending a lot of time on it...

See if your local motorcycle shop can recommend anyone for the job. Just tell them you will drop off the forks/fork

if they are onlt a bit bent at the top couldnt you just leave the fork lowers on?

See thats where you and i differ... I think its part of the fun to spend a lot of time on it... and whats more, my bike is my only means of transport (Bus at the mo as i have popped my ac joint) but i think its educational to fix it yourself... At my young rider stage anyway (Poor)

yeah i like the old educational thing too. It was quite interesting, ive never dismantled a front end. Friend said to take chrome to engineers, and get it pressed for ~$40, so I thought I'd save myself some $ instead of sending to bike shop. Yeah I gots an impact driver, think i need a long reach one though. We found the allen key bolt, just don't have a correct size key, it just spins in there. Broom handle down where? the top of the fork which holds the oil,spring assembly? Anyhow I'll send the complete fork to cromwell yamaha, they should have the right tools.

Yeah stick it down there, you might have to trim the end to get it to fit properly though

Impact driver wont do it, you want a air impact wrench (airgun)

Bummer, did that myself when I highsided the Bucket racer. Took months before I rode again.
I don't know how the pro's do it. I guess money talks (and they are fitter in the first place).
