    Laptop problem (HP nx5000)

Okay i have an HP nx5000 laptop about 18 months old (only came with 1 year warrenty) 1.5 intel centrino, 512megs ram cdrw/dvdrom

Problem i have having is the battery is not charging. First tried my battery in another laptop fine, there battery in my laptop(does not charge). Tried different power cords, no change

It has two replacement system boards(HP have said this is the only part that has anything to do with charging), and a replacement cpu.

Either of these fixed the problem.

Anyone got any other idea what could do.

i GOT A BIT CONfused reading that one but from waht it seems you have a dead mainboard.. mabey fuse blown in it? Is your powercord really twisted? You get internal wire breakages that could have changed resistance of the electricity coming in to the laptop and then changed the amount of amps... then that pops a mainboard fuse according to the hardware techhie for laptops here at work.

I'll think of some other possible problem after I take a dump.

Batterys are classed as consumable items as they deteroiate over time.

The laptops we sell come with a 3 year warrenty but the battery only has a 1 year warrenty anyway due to that fact.

the reason the battery deteroiates is because people run it of the ac power all the time, hence trickle charging the battery and never actually letting it run flat then chanrging it all the time. then they expect it just work when they need it, despite the abuse.

If the battery isnt detected at all (battery light/charge light) doesnt come on then thats either a faulty mainboard or a connection problem.

    My solution: BUY A TOSHIBA

IT IS NOT A POWER, OR BATTERY PROBLEM

    Hmmmm Power is pluged in

This as been taken over past 2 weeks

In pasted two weeks hp local dealer as put two different(new) system boards in, since this is what hp told them was the only part that as only thing to do with charging(or so they say).

Also tried replacing the cpu, just on an off chance that might work.

PS - my work does ibm desktops and hp laptops, so i have no choice in what i get

Yeah what wasp said. We have an in house portables plus techie.. and we are only tosshiba too. 1 year warranty is fair enough but they should have some massive sticker explaining not to rape batteries. Sigh.

Ahh... it is a power problem on your mainboard not the powerpack itself. A fuse has most probably blown and I have seen this behaviour before about 3-4 times myself.

I rape my battery when the time comes that I need it to actually be portable and not a desktop ill just grab one of the many spares on the shelves here....

Interesting Cajun, more often than not changing the mainboard fixes alot of things with laptops, if its not the mainboard or cpu then what else is it???..... THE BATTERY!.....

most toshs have power pcbs that plug into the mainboard - ive seen a few faulty ones before so its not impossible.

Based on many years of bitter personal experience, laptops are crap. You can guarantee that they'll fail when you really need them to do what they are supposed to -- provide self-contained and remote computing power. And they are largely status symbols rather than sensible or credible business tools. But if you want to look cool at the airport and enjoy fannying around with touchpad mouses or those stupid green sticks that protrude from the keyboard, and enjoy typing on a non-ergonomic keyboard, then buy one.
