Bike nirvana is coming.......soon

Rumour has it that KTM are introducing a 690 single in 2007.
The other manufacturers will be sure to follow.
So, (hopefully) we will have a crop of 60hp (perhaps up to 70HP), 140-150kg, super agile, street/motard or adventure/dirt capable with a simple change of wheels thumpers to choose from.

Can't wait.

Yeah they did, But mate, there is no way KTM could make it as ugly as the BIG

I had a SR500 single in the late 80's. One of the best fun bikes I ever had once I hotted her up slighty by getting a mate to clean the head up insdie and properly regrind the valves etc, and put a power pipe on her. Great little street bike. Engine is so basic its actually fun to work on and had neat little touchs like the cam chain tensioner checkie thingie. Wouldnt mind getting another big single as a day to day commuter and keep the four for the big trips.

Yeah - I had a SR500 brand new too - I was a lot skinnier then.
I ride Hippies DR650 and warewolfs 640 Adventure and Veges 625 occasionally too.
But you know what - I don't like singles very much.
Harsh shakey buzzy jerky horrid things compared to twins and triples.

Understand the hard out performance aspects - but Nirvana as long as you don't want to see anything in the rear veiw mirror.

Your freewind in the best of the bunch by a fair stretch for mine.

Dr PIG started out at 750cc & the last models were 800cc

An old XR500A is a thumper with character

totally out classed by todays standards but still a shitload of fun

for comp use nothing at all - just for a day to day bit of nirvana? - those things of yours are as OK too - forgot they were a single.

That's the point - there is a new generation coming - not harsh, not shakey (but still thumpy), not jerky...........but still light, agile and slim, but more powerful................and did I mention light, agile and more powerful?

The old SR500 was smooth as. Wasn't intended to rev like mine did after some mod's and power pipe and she was a great wheel stander even when you didn't want too. Had a King and Queen seat too. Some lowlifes came around one night in Hataitai , Wellington, and slashed her to peices to steal the indicators, wiring and even took the suspension. To think I was going to buy some new expensive rear shocks to replace those crapped out ones, but the point was it was going to cost me heaps to repair her so I sold her for parts. Had her for a few years and even did several full North Island runs on her. Not great tourer but she got me home each time. I would recommend every rider try a summer trip on a big single. Great fun, no rush biking.
