Its probably got somthing to do with the tire pressures.

Some bikes have a switch on the side stand that kills the motor (or locks it out) if the stand is down. Stops you riding off with it down then killing yourself on the first left handerOriginally Posted by willy_01

We all do stupid things, expecially me.
just this morning i did my first ever whoops, im sure i put the stand down when i got off the bike this morn - its a good thing i always lean it over then get off! i was able to catch the bike just in time and avoid damaging the bike and embarressing myself! (2 workmates were there and a few security cameras too...)

There's Life, the Universe and Everything, but I prefer pizza.
Cant say Ive done that, though sometimes when i go to turn it off i flick it on and off again so quickly that the bike partially stops then fires back up again. Gets annoying that. And its the first time I've heard about the side stand kill thing, could have come useful when i was first learning. Got a bit hairy around a couple left handers back then.
Also had frog turn off the petrol to me bike without me knowing, figured that out pretty quick though.
the sidestand switch works nicely when you have to take it off to fit a race fairing....bike ran fine at home yesterday, arrive at track with new fairings and the bloody thing won't start..then there's lots of searching for a complicated reason why it won't start. can last ages.
yea done both and the start riding with the tap on off thing

This one time at band camp. . . . . .

Never had a killswitch problem. Not once. Honest. (i would tell the truth to) but on the other had the side stand thing.......... many many times.

It would appear i just revived a very old thread. ooops. oh well. we all live. i hope. dont ask me how i found it tho ;0)
Ahahahahahaha, only time I've done it I was backing the bike into a park and accidentally hit it while looking behind me. When I went to start the bike couldn't figure out why it wouldn't do anything. After what seemed like a lifetime (specially once I realised some guys had congregated and were watching me take off, make that trying to take off) I thought to look at the kill switch. Yes, I did feel like a right doofusbut hopefully the reality was it was only half a minute of embarrassment. Eeeeeeek, I then hoped to high hell that I didn't make an even bigger fool of myself by dropping her as I u-ied to head in the opposite direction.
I think I redeemed myself by looking very nonchalant as i pulled away (thankfully my embarrassment was hidden by the helmet!)

Yeah, how did you find this ancient thread?
Guilty myself. Never use the kill switch but swapped bikes with a mate and he used it to kill the bike at the next gasser. I tried everything to get it going. Pulled the seat off and checked the ECU connecters and after 15 minutes asked another biker for help who pointed at the red switch thingy. My mate had no idea cos he always stops his bike with the kill switch.
I felt like the biggest dick on the planet![]()
If the destination is more important than the journey you aint a biker.

Hey, old threads are good
Did the kill switch a few times. I found it so quickly once that I was able to start the engine again while the bike was still moving. It made a big Bang! No damage, but I've learned since to stop the bike before starting the engine again.
Oh, and last time I did it, the switch was only half way pushed, the engine kept having hiccups and making strange noises for a few kms until I found out what it was.
The side stand thingy gets better if it starts to stick in partial "dead" position! Then you see the stand retracted, kill switch "live" and then try and start the fekker...
My bike came back from the workshop on Friday covered in dust. So I set about giving it a big checkover prior to the Chateau to Plateau run. Tyre pressures, chain tension, fluid levels, and a big wash and polish.
I grabbed a can of Supercheap degreaser and gave the wheels, discs, etc etc a real good squirt. Then washed the bike with the hot sudsy stuff.
When I came to hose all this off I was a bit puzzled at why the degreaser didn't go milky and wash off as usual. I had just covered my wheels (including tyres?), and brake discs in Supercheap CRC equivalent.
So then I got busy with the hot soapy water again. When that was dry everything got a real heavy treatment with the correct can, before a near obsessive compulsive hosing job.
When that was dry all remained was a reeeeeally careful test ride...
The wheels look nice now though...![]()
