Storing parts?

I have come into possession of a wrecked VX800 that I want to break-down and store for "a rainy day". I will be able to store everything in a dry, but not heated place. What should I do with the tank to prevent it rusting (on the inside), and what is the best way to store the motor? I am prepared to turn the crankshaft over (using a socket on the nut) from time-to-time if need be.

I hear you can spray in tank with anti rust coating........should work but dont quote me.

For the tank I've heard people say to just fill it with petrol or I suppose a light machine oil, such as the type used in Air tools sloshed around inside would also do the trick...its especially good at stopping rust and is light enough to not gunge up.
As for the motor, some after run type oil squirted in the plug holes and turn the engine over a few times, will keep the bores sorted.
A fresh oil change will stop any deposits in the old oil causing corrosion.

What he said, in the tank I have used light oil sucessfully, lasted for about 6 months before I restored it, just rinse with Kerosene to clean. Change the oil and filter before storing, use some kind of upper cylinder lubricant down spark holes to ensure no corrosion, strip and clean carbs before storing to remove any gummy deposits, lube all cables before storing so they dont seize. If worried about any risk of moisture in storage then use a sealable plastic box to store in and add some silica packets to make certain.
