No, not for 20 years. It's a bit close to scummy's patch though.
    That'd explain a lot.

Nah, too many tar-seal roads and electicity around to look the part.

They picked on some North Island town that had a gravel main street, no power and the kids were all running around in raggedy shirts and bare feet.

Too many hick towns up there for me to remember which one, maybe Matawai??

    ,,.
Which sort of makes a nonesense of one of the primary arguments used to sustain the MoT and Polcie merger, does it not? If the ACC funded cops are only doing drunk testing, why not have them paid by and employed by the MoT (ie LTSA) ? And let cops go back to being proper cops.

More and more the merger is looking like a very bad decision, I think.

Semantics. The issue is that the funding supplied by ACC is ring fenced by them and can only be used for the stated purpose, (as is funding supplied by other agencies).

The crux of the problem lies with how the police are funded. It doesn't matter a zot whether the cops doing the road policing wear blue or black. At least the traffic cops these days are trained and have appropriate powers required to deal with general police work as well as just annoying motorists.

Well, as we are constantly told that the police force cannot obtain enough recruits, I suggest it does matter several zots.

Since the "traffic" cops are not, in fact, using the training or powers that they have to deal with general police work, it would be much more logical for them to be a separate force.

Then, ALL the graduates from the police academy would be assigned to general duties . And since the duties of the "traffic" cops would be significantly different, there would probably be little difficulty in recruiting a separate force for that purpose. Not saying there that traffic policing is a lesser thing than general policing. Just that the nature of it being different, there would doutless be people who would be keen to be traffic cops, but don't want to be general duties cops.

What, and leave you to fang around all over the place moaning how your radar detector was a waste of money and you don't need it now?

Nah mate, we wouldn't leave you in the lurch like that by taking the traffic types off the street to do 'police' work!
