Dominate? you mean sit higher. Those trucks only dominate the petrol pump and the record for making the most vehicles that sell in the least places. When I was living in the US I couldnt understand why they operated such agricultrally rated vehicles that are so incapable of doing anything agricultural!

A big reason why ford is going down and gm is looking at climbing into bed with the french and japanese is trucks like that.

They are big and can get in the way. But then they do have thier place . I say use them for thier intended purpose i.e. carrying large heavy loads but the amount of posers that have them for impractical reasons astounds me. One of my old boss's had one but it was a racking company and when he's moving half a ton of steel around on the thing you know any other vehicle would have crumpled. Also are a convinient size for moving 2 wheeled vehicles.

So yes if used in context they are quite practicle. When parked 1m from the curb in ponsonby (not this case but I have seen it done) they do become a little obstructing.
Lump lingered last in line for brains,
And the ones she got were sort of rotten and insane...

yep there thirst for gas is shocking and their practicality is limited but why do i still want one? probably the same reason a yearn for a busa that can do 3 times the legal speed limit in a world of speed cameras & ticket quotas. Boys (and girls) and their toys i cant explain it but they a great fun

Whew...I feel like I've been doing a lot of hating. Don't get me wrong, this was just a little rant to let off steam
    I understand.

I trust you may have had more steam to let off if he/she had parked long ways taking up all the spaces so that is ass didnt stick out

We drive an F100 everyday as our work vehicle. Its a little larger than a jap ute but rides more than ten times better at least we aren't being crippled like in our Nissan Navara. Costs no more to run than my Subaru Legacy did (and I owned the legacy a couple of years ago when petrol was cheap!). And I'd drive a Ram everyday just I don't know whether I can get the boy to part with the F100

I'm with Quartida, it's just an ego wank by some inadequate. The load rating on those things is probably little if any greater than any Falcadore cab/chassis ute.
Like all 4WDS the sheer bulk causes huge problems for anyone parked beside them.
Why spend all that money to tell the world you have a countersunk dick?

They are the bosses vehicle, you can't have the boss turning up in a High Lux Surf.As Lou says the payload is useless - a real work vehicle is a Toyota Dyna, you can toss what you like in the tray,it doesn't matter if the front end loader gives it a nudge when it drops half a metre of builders mix on the back. The guys can eat pies and spill coke on the seats, get in with muddy boots.I can't see Fulton Hogan giving the road crews Dodge Ram's,what more proof do we need that they are only for the rich and famous in their own minds.

Only practical use for a double cab Ram with duallies is towing the Porche to the next race meeting....

I could not, would not, on a boat.
I will not, will not, with a goat.
I will not eat them in the rain.
I will not eat them on a train.
Not in the dark! Not in a tree!
Not in a car! You let me be!
I do not like them in a box.
I do not like them with a fox.
I will not eat them in a house.
I do not like them with a mouse.
I do not like them here or there.
I do not like them ANYWHERE!

I don't like American vehicles in general because of their poor design and build quality. You can thank the unions for destroying the motor industry in the US.

However, I fail to see what you're on about. Not built for NZ roads? What? Our roads are shit house so heavy 4x4's with good suspension must be better. As for their size, why aren't you complaining about trucks and buses then?

Dangerous to other vehicles? Who gives a fuck? When I buy a vehicle, I buy one with safety in mind. MY SAFETY. Kiwi's are up there as the most dumbest drivers in the world. It's war out there and if some moron wants to pull out in front of me in a holdem berlina and I can't stop in time, tough luck. Crunch, splat.

But while you're ranting on, how about this. Why is it that tree hugging, vegetable activist, environmentalist, greenies all drive around in shit house cars that blow smoke? Fucken hiprocrites.

Yeah the 4wd sure saved those two Tongans in LA didn't it?
Maybe if they'd been in a car it wouldn't have flipped and landed on their heads.
The good thing is that the 4wd death rate is higher than for normal cars.

the same reason NZ allows road registered race replica sport bikes capable of 3+ times the speed limit to be imported, the freedom to let people choose what they wish. where would the fun be if all we had to choose from was white toyota corollas and honda step thru's?

funny you should mention it. The ford F150, or maybe its larger brother the 250 (i think this is right) is actually that heavy that you do need an HT licence to drive it.

That's why 4WDs aren't a public good....and why I don't think we should be allowed them. There are lots of examples in the world where things have to be regulated becaue people are only aware of what is best for THEM not the whole population e.g. immunisation.

I'm not complaining about trucks and buses because

    a) they don't try and park in normal car spaces
    b) you have to have a special licence to drive them so you (theoretically) should be more aware of the consequence of your vehicle's size on other motorists.
