certainly makes sense...given that at 5000 rpm I'm only 1000 from hitting redline on the Buell

I'm wondering how mine is going to given it has a sports-kit exhaust etc fitted...?
Better find a 'nice' shop to do it for me

You would see I did say fitting, something the repco/super cheap people dont fiddle in. What I was referring to is say you go to a Garage to get your rusty old exhaust replaced and they end up fitting one that the plod deems illegal is the item that they fitted not "fit for intended purpose" and you can therefor go after the shop for your losses?!?

Forget the boi ricers being given stickers, they just pull them off.
Get a can of that expanding foam stuff - selleys no more gaps or something, and squirt some of that stuff up the baked-bean-can style "phhsshhtt" exhaust. Problem fixed!

I'm fairly sure they tested a race kitted XB and it passed.

I don't think your local garage is going to fit an expensive performance exhaust unless you tell them to,they will fit something cheap and nasty. The guys who supply mufflers for actual fitting and not just passing over the counter in exchange for money will be supplying a muffler that actualy complies...because they have to,Repco doesn't have to.

Also what you guys haven't got through your thick skulls despite my repeated posts - this is not a WoF issue, this does not involve your 2002 Gixr with bakebean tins - it is entry level, meaning when the vehicle is VINed before being allowd on our roads.OR....when you make too much noise when the cops are looking. The WoF test is still me going ''Eh...what!?,sounds pretty good to me!'' Unless of course you go to the testing station and get the Indians who haven't worked on a car in their lives, but somehow get to be AVI's,they have no mechanical knowledge, but follow the book rigedly to the letter.

Sounds like they need to use their own tacho where ever possible, otherwise use the vehicles own tacho. I see in section 2.5 (1), that the tacho must be accurate to within 2%. I doubt many bike tachos are that close. Remember the debacle with the R6 tacho saying the bike readlined at 17,000 when in reality it was a lot lower than that? If that was out by more than 340 rpm, then it's not suitable for use in testing the exhuast noise. On my bike, it'd need to be accurate to within ~200 rpm, on Rashika's Buell, your talking 120rpm margin for error.

Am I reading this right, the Aprilia gets tested at 4000rpm yet my CR would get tested 6000? Obviously it doesnt need to be tested, but regardless . . . that seems a bit strange to me.

well im glad they make everything nice and simple.
looking at those rev figures some seem a lot more sensible than others, but as we all know every bike is different so they include that lovely little line saying that the tester can decide on a different rpm if they feel it needs it.
so lets make a law - decide all the detail- and then say that the tester can change things if they want. BS!!!
Cant they just get shit right the first time.

OK now ive stopped fuming about law makers incompetency - I actually am glad to see a noise restriction in place to get rid of some of those ridiculously loud cars that go cruising around looking oh so cool.
I wonder if they could have a clause to differentiate between vehicles that sound "cool" and vehicles that just emit noise.
