If you want to ride without a helmet, you have to be a gang member, be going to a tangi and have lots of mates with you.

I attended a funeral last week, travelled from the service to the burial site without a helmet, out of respect, and felt the right thing to do......
Fully expected to be dealt with if seen by the cops, but recieved thanks from the family for it.

I think I could have managed it. The furtherest I've been from my house is to SuperCheap Auto, which is 5 mins away. (And I got tooted at once! For not taking an intersection quick enough!! Honestly...)

But every day things are getting easier. I'm going to do a ten minute ride tonight, to my dance class and back, which will be the longest yet. So soon I can join you in the 250 ride joy!
