Ferk, the poor bastard was screwed either way.

Goes to the crash? - "You're drunk matey, come this way.'

Does not turn up? "Ya miserable bastard, you were not THAT drunk, you could have gone and taken the oxygen bottles"

I worked with an ex UK cop when I was in Oz. He told me about this poor sod who had been waiting at a bus stop in Peckham (London), minding his own business when some bloke who was driving past had a heart attack, spun, and hit the bus stop. This did not kill the waiting guy.

What killed him was that the bus stop snapped, and the sign at the top flicked down like a guillotine and sliced him from the crown of his head down to his pelvis. Apparently he remained upright, and had to be left there while they secured the area and took photos for evidence etc.

Well, what a bloody silly response from Plod GHQ.

So if an offduty cop sees someone being bashed up , raped or whatever , he's just to stand and watch. Hopefully, whilst he's watching members of the public will do what they can to prevent the crime.

What happens if it's another (on duty) copper being bashed? Is the off duty colleague still to stand and watch his mate being killed? Bearing in mind that it is actually a legal obligation for members of the public to lend such assistance to a police officer as may be requested.

Presumably this will require a lot more cops - a sole charge cop is pretty pointless if they're only useful 1/3 of the time.

Common (or rare) sense out the window once again.

So if a cop is being bashed and I help out (even though I've had 3 pints) I'll be a hero, but if mr copper who was drinking with me does he'll get fired.

    Bloody morans.

I'm sure they thought of that.

Looks like someone threw the baby out with the bathwater...again.
I lament the loss of commonsense in our silly world
