The old R1 is a good bike but still carbed. Better to get a newer thou with injection. Lots of old R1's have been raced too.

no i havent ridden it yet. what was the 99 r1 like? anything compared to todays standards. i dont want another r6. need an r1 but i dont want a new one because of the price tag.
This space for rent
The 99 R1 has more low end and mid range power than the new one (but less up top). For most times that makes it easy to ride. You can be lazy and still have tons of instant performance on tap. The handling was a little nervous but if you spend a bit on the suspension and maybe a steering damper you may be able to sort it out for you. Reliablity is excellent and weight is about the same as the new one. There is nothing wrong with the carbed motor nor is it any less powerful than the early (02-03) injected motors. The styling is better on these early models IMHO (less angular). PB seem to like this old bus as well - look in any recent issue. All this is my opinion of course, others may disagree.

Lots of skill to do wheelies then r6 is all good, hamfisted but can control the throttle - r1 wants your babies.
Licence? - r1 wants your babies.
To be honest. If you sold your R6 or even trade it in you would only be about $4000 short on the new R6.
