    Best mud tyres?

Im just about to upgrade my tyres to something for the coming winter riding. What does everyone reccomend for the really really muddy rides? At the moment im running a pretty intimediate setup with a Pirrelli MT32F (one of the first prototype tyres given to select dealers) and a Metzlar MC4 on the back. I've only ever run the MC4 on the rear and have thought it was pretty good in all situations but is a bit of a prick in the mud if you stop and try get going again, but if you've got speed on it seems alright in the mud.

Im considering going to a Shinko on the front and a MT32 on the rear. I've also heard that the MS3 is a pretty good tyre in the mud on both the front and rear.

Whats everyones opinions? I'd like to hear from peoples personal experience not what they've heard from their 3rd uncles, dogs, best friends wife.

Will be keeping an eye on this thread, cause I need some new tyres shortly. Have a mate just chucked an MC4 on the rear and reckons its the biz. I'm running a semi-paddle set up (came with the bike) and its shit au. Doesnt work in mud, gravel, sand, hell, it'll even spin up on tarseal. Cant wait till I can get some decent tyres on!

S12 or MS3 MIchelins are pretty good, as are the new m201/m202 Bridgestones, my favorite mud tyre is the S12, they don't like gravel roads though,
have got on MT32F/MT32 rear at the moment, i actually quite like them as i have never been a big fan of pirelli front tyres,

Heard S12s are good, but on a recomendation I went from an MC4 to a Mitas C10. who? yeah I know! But first time ride was desert storm when it got boggy in deep mud ruts in some places & it rocked! I'll be back.

    MS3 all the way.
I did a min TT in Masterton last year...boggiest conditions I've ever ridden in.
The tyre not only hooked up well, but worked well when braking and gave good lateral grip.
Looked like new when I'd done 6 races, and there was one rocky bit on the track that'd normally fuck tyres like this on a 450.
Best tyre I've used in 25 years of racing off road.

I bought mc4`s and would recommend them ;-) cheap and do a good job.

Thanks for everybodies input. I wont be buying a MC4 rear for the mud riding and definately wont consider a MC4 front. The MT32F front is also off the list.

I am thinking of a Shinko Front with a MT32 rear or MS3's alround. Has anybody used either of those I mentioned? I'd especially love to hear from you if you can compare the different tyres (ie have tried all the mentioned ones). What are the Shinko Rear tyres like? Because most of the Enduro racing guys i know will only put Shinko's on the front and i dont hear much talk at all about them on the rear.

have used a lot of tyres and the best brand for me would have to be the metzlar great bite but dose were fast as is soft compound. yoko are very hard tyre very good for soft dirt. the ching shin paddle tyre is soft and very good when put behind a bike with lots of power and going in to mud it will drain the swamp.

Shinko rears are great in the mud but just fall apart on hard pack or gravel ect.
Oh yeah and at the moment i've got mitroc's front and rear because they last and preform well in all conditions not like a specialist tyre that only preforms well under certain conditions like the shinko soft rears.
Another plus to mitroc's is that they're cheap to buy.

Shinko's are just the same as Yokohama 540's.
Fantastic 'drive' in mud...not much grip when sideways.
The also fall apart when they see something hard.
Try MS3's....trust me (says the salesman)

SHinko's are the old yoko 540's, they were the best tyres in the early 90's but no devolpment has gone in since, would go MS3's out of the buch you have picked, way better than mc4's in the mud imho
