PS: when I go up North again that gun shop will be my first port of call, I want one of those hand guns to fend off the cage ragers, seemed to work well for the shop keeper!
what you really want is a big shotgun, that all the cagers behind and to the side can see, therefore they will be a LOT more patient

suddenly the baby from Meet The Fockers doing those actions about making fun of Ben Stiller being a nurse are floating around in my head but don't worry, I'm not making fun of male nurses, just pointing out that Ben Stiller is an uppety n00b.. <-- see Extras episode 1 for proof..
..just like Mad Mel (Gibson), who got done badly for drunk driving, and anti-semetism <-- on the news last night..

Definitely - I've used it twice and both times watched the cops get the perp. (long stories, not relevant).

I called *555 and chased the guy in my cage to 185 along the Mad Mile. When I caught up to him, I told the operator I was matching his speed at 165 and passed on the rego before I was told to back off. They were waiting for us at Paraparamu. I didn't even get a talking to for the speed I had just admitted travelling at, before I chased him I had told the operator that I would have to go pretty fast to catch him, they just said go ahead if I could do it, because they needed his rego.
Sometimes it does work - if they have the resources. I'm glad it did in this instance and that you got to go fast However, there have been instances reported on this site where people have been told to hang up and phone 111.

    From the police website:

*555 should be used to report general traffic incidents via mobile phone. It is not an emergency number. In the event of a serious, time critical traffic emergency, dial 111.

    When not to call 111
Don't call 111 for non-urgent situations. It's not an emergency when the situation is not dangerous and immediate action isn't necessary, such as when there is no risk to life or property or an offender has left and is unlikely to return
So, try *555 if you like and it may work (probably most of the time). But if it's a genuine emergency do 111. I guess some things are a bit blurry inbetween....

Any police on here know about this and when can it be used.

Yep, people HAVE been charged and convicted of using a car as a 'weapon' in an assault when they have deliberately ran at/run into a person.

Wish I'd known some of this when I got knocked off my bike. Not that it was malicious but I didn't want to call 111 coz that's for emergencies and I didn't think I was dying. Didn't know about *555. I went to report the accident to the local police station the following day (splint and all) and they said they didn't have time/wouldn't take the details and it was for the insurance company to sort out. Now I may not get paid by the insurance company coz there's no Police report! I'm looking forward to a situation where I can use *555.

Go back into the station and ask them for a traffic incident complaint form. There's also the online version found via the police.govt.nz website (posted somewhere else in this thread?) Will be tricky without their registration tho.

With my road rage/failing to stop at the scene of a accident incident, where the lady rammed the back of my bike... I rung 111 and they asked me to go to my local copshop..... I went to Henderson copshop and filled in all the forms...

Dont let the receptionst behind the counter tell you they DONT HAVE time...
That is their job to give you all the neccessary forms to fill in.

Cos once you have filled in all the forms them ask them to photocopy it off for you... so you also have a copy in your hands should it go to court and plus you can get your insurance company to photocopy that form off as well.
