Piecock Hill is where a few i know cut there teeth in the early days, neat road, possum almost claimed me on my ZXR and dirt by battle hill almost claimed me and my TL, but i'm still rent free, even better now with areas they sealed up, still some rough stuff, man i havent done it years, so many good memories like the chik i took up there once and she complined her hands were cold (yes she had gloves) so i told her to grab the muffler thinking she wouldn't think i was serious, the yelp of pain said otherwise! and the many times having to pick my body up to avoid clobbering a fence post with my head round a corner, few scruff marks on my shoulders from whacking the roadside markers lol, yep not much room for error indeed, the new speed limit must suck arse and from what i hear the HP hit it reguraly now, okay os i it wouldn't be hard for some people i know to out gun an HP car round there, but only one real way in or out (two if you take the cliff down to the seaside) makes it a tough one.
Grays road is a bit of fun for sure, the paramata side has too many built up areas for my liking.
GSXR wiping the shit that is that Honda, Yamaha and Kawasaki off the road since '85'

Yep - my favorite bit of local road too, I usually stop at the top for a while to enjoy the view which is awesome and peaceful even on a not so good day.
Only 1 corner I don't like and have to remember to treat with respect each time: the left hander (going from Porirua side) a bit past the farm that has the boat in the tree - it really tightens up on you and to make it further interesting you can also suddenly encounter oncoming traffic there using your side of the road!
pretentious moi?
I used to ride it heaps but having to use my spidey sense to avoid the boi racers on MY side of the road got real tiring. However, my biggest eye opener was being tail-gated by a white van through there. Bastard must have been laughing his tits off.

I lived in Paraparaumu and did that road so many, many times! Yep loved it.
I had some amazing rides through there in the wet on an RG250, sliping and sliding it every where, it was like a rodeo ride Yeee Haaa.![]()
Those were the days when it was rough as guts, much, much worse than it's current state.
Grays road was a bit of fun, but I never really cut loose on it, Puatahanui got to built up in the end, it was fun once, it used to be a real quick piece of road...
I once lived at the bottom of Makara Rd too, so rubbing my shoulders past the bushes was a daily occurence there
But the Akatarawas, ahhhhh theres a road![]()
The line for this corner is keep it real wide on a smooth throttle (you actually see oncoming cars better on this line) then just before the corner tightens, cut the power and drop the bike on it's side, hug the rock face then almost instantly pick it up with the power and fire her out the corner on a very safe tight line. (a wheelie friendly line too hehehe) It places you in the safest place at the most dangerous time (the blind part) Using this line I came to just DIG that corner, enjoyOriginally Posted by et al

Havent been up there for years but its kind of freaky when you get towards the top from the Porirua side and pull over at a lookout and look down. I heard that when someone crashed over the hill many years ago they nearly hit the motorway after just one bounce. They didnt survive. Being here, I could believe it. Worse than the Rimutakas drop and that is really saying something.
Then came the day when cages were confined to zoos.. and the bipedals ruled the earth again..Tu@ advt # 666 Return of the beasties
It would be a rare occurrence if you didn't come across a cage on the wrong side of the road on a run.Originally Posted by _intense_

I've heard others rave about that road as well. But, heard just as many say that it's the kind of road that draws you into throwing the bike around then... just as your getting into your groove a 4x4 will pop round the corner and run you off the road. I'm too chickenshit for that kind of buzz.Originally Posted by Shadmeister

Too right, I don't really like the Akataratarawarawarawara road for that reason (and also because I can't fucking spell it). I usually find myself a cage to use as a barrier for most sections of that road. Drop back, have a little bit of a blast catching up, than drop back again. It makes for a kind of stilted ride though, and half the time the cage pulls over for you and then they must wonder WTF I'm doing pulling in behind them as well.Originally Posted by Clivoris

Dang! With that description you must have seen my riding.... I'm getting all paranoid now....Originally Posted by Clivoris

Don't forget it's got a stupid 80kph speed limit. It was bad enough when it was 100 because you'd get nanas doing 60-80, but now you get the same nanas doing 40-60 because it must be a dangerous stretch of road to have such a low speed...Originally Posted by DEATH_INC.
I used to love the stretch of road from Mirarmar to Island Bay - nice during the week when there's not much traffic. I'm not a lover of the first bit of the Paekak Hill but I love the bit through Battle Hill to Pauatahanui. I fear the corners as there is so often shit all over them that has fallen from further up the hill!
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!
