There is a large diesel spill on SH 1 just south of the Whirikino Bridge. (The very long bridge just south of Foxton)

The spill is in the northbound lanes and is about 3 k's long.

Higgins Road Contractors are on the way to deal with the spill but extreme care is required by drivers travelling on this road.

Obviously that comment doesn't include whoever was riding a smallish (250?) Suzuki through there yesterday morning - I had to overtake them in the end (I was in a car) because they were doing between 60-80kph in the twisty bits! It must have been the day for it because I overtook a Harley on the way home just south of Linton...

Do you mean SH56 - through Opiki? SH57 is the one that bypasses Levin and heads north through Shannon and past the Opiki turn-off north through Tokomaru. The twisty bits I was referring to are the very first section past the Opiki turn-off.
