    What fuel do you use?

After talking to some old guys with classic race cars the the day, they all said that the best gas you can use in NZ is Gull because it's actually a premium fuel. Apparently all the stuff BP and shell get is here is all the shit everyone else doesn't want! So we get the dregs! But cause gull comes direct from singapore (or something) it's better. And apparently your engine will last longer with it too!

True you think? I am currently using BP ultimate after reading that avgas is a waste of time.

Kinda rings a bell, I know it happens in the UK all the Supermarkets sell the cheap nasty stuff....

Always use BP Ultimate on the bike.....

Hasn't a Shell ( i think it was Shell not 100% sure on that one) garage in Hamilton just been investigated for selling dodgy fuel, that has killed 10 engines so far....
    Doesn't play well with others

Gasoline from one of the bigger chains is fine for Hondas , They are designed to run on MTTB oxygenated fuel of 91 octane ( cant remember the Ron/Mon but its around 86 octane )

In older 2 strokes the squish area needs to be change to stop detonation , other than that you are fine

Try this new shell according to fair go you get a few more kms out of a litre !!!

No one knows the secret formula of whats in there , but its an Highly oxygenated fuel , methanol would do the same thing ) all that means is you would have to jet differently or it would be running leaner, with corresponding piston crown temp rise.

You ould do more damage by running cheap oil .... oh how do I know that

haha, no, unfortuanately, it was a BP (the one in Ohaupo, by the speed camera)

but yeah, I use 91 octane from either Mobil, Caltex, and BP (whichever is closest), just will stay away from Shell, and Ohaupo BP, Hamilton <-- dodgy water in fuel.. on my Honda CT110 though, I'll use 96 octane, mostly from Caltex or Gasolene Alley(Shell if I have to) - Those are the main ones on my post run, and the bike uses less petrol on 96 than 91 (saves about $1 per day, even though 96 is more expensive) <-- I use between $5 & $6 of gas per day on the CT (fill up from reserve)
There's nothing more exhilarating than pointing out the shortcomings of others, is there? -Clerks

    re oxygenated fuel.

i quote from my owners handbook.

Unleaded gasoline containing MTBE (Ester) may be used in your motorcycle if the mtbe content is not greater than 15%.( contains no alcohol)

Blends of unleaded gasoline and ethanol (grain alcohol), may be used if the ethanol content is not greater than 10%.

fuel containing 5% or less methanol may be used if they contain co-solvents and corrosion inhibitors. DO NOT USE fuels containing more than 5% methanol under any circumstances.(there is also a warranty disclaimer if any damage is caused resulting from the use of such fuel.)

i have tried to find something on the net re these fuels in nz to no success. An aussie mag i read recommended the 98 ultras, and if not available, the best of the rest was Caltex Vortex. in nz this is now called techron. What sort of blend this is i dont know. Re Gull petrol being a higher octane is proberly correct because Challange use to be the same with there petrol i believe comming from Aussie. Challange is now owned by Caltex so its proberly caltex in the pumps now.?

helps your bike go way longer just a bit pricey compared to 91 from some dodgey old bp station......

sounds like that special source only finds out that you've filled your bike once they check the fuel level in the morning?

this used to be true about Challenge Petrol Stations about 4-5 years ago when they were newish... everyone gets the same fuel from the same shit place now as far as i know. (dont quote me on this tho)
