After the DR recently suffered a top end failure, while I am waiting to find suitably priced 2nd hand bits, I am going to strip the old girl to bits, and start with a bare frame rebuild. I am going to take photos on the days I work on it, and itemise all expenditure, so that all you lads and lasses can see that you can rebuild an old clunker to look like a tidy little beastie on a tight budget. We are a one income family, and subsequently, I will be doing everything as cheaply as I can. I have got the pre-strip down photos done, just ignore the dates on the photos, my stupid camera won't hold the date for some reason.
I am waiting to find a top end, head/valves/cam etc in workable condition, so I'm on the hunt for DR/GN top ends at the moment, most of which are beyond my budget, so If you hear of any going cheap, maybe even a wrecked GN, please let me know.
I will update this original post here with everything I spend.
