ah - sorry read it again and now understand

There is a crazy new rule regarding towing, where the vehicle has to be able to stop within 7 metres from 30km.

    have a look here

    I towed a MF 28 once

Behind a Toyota Hi-lux on an un braked tandem trailer. (2.4 diesel I think)

The ute was working quite hard, and I got a bad case of the speed wobbles the one time I exceeded 80k.

I know that the trailer probably wasn't balanced, but even so I'd be reluctant to do it again!

I think to tow 2 tons, even braked, you'd be wanting a navara or rodeo. They've got the heaviest tow rating of the utes i've seen.

So long as you don't go over the speed limit while doing so, you'll be perfectly safe....

How many km is Tauranga to Thames? Might be better to just drive it there.

Unless the B2000 tow bar is rated as 3 ton, not a chance!
Why, the trailers weight plus trailer load must be less than or equal to tow bar rating. Thus a 1 ton trailer with 2 ton load will require a 3 ton towbar and a vehicle able to handle a combined 3 ton trailer/load.
90% of the time spent writing this post was spent thinking of something witty to say. It may have been wasted.

What on earth have you been smoking. The only thing that cops worry about is speeders. Unsafe towing will not result in a ticket!
