    Burt Munro's bike in Dunedin

This afternoon after work I went around to the Otago museum for a look at ‘Burt Munros’ trusty rocket. Also there was ‘john brittens’ machine.

That is soooo sweet! Thanks for sharing and having the foresight to have a camera to snap piccies! It's kinda funny, I will be teaching "The worlds fastest indian" movie as a visual text at school next year (yeeehaaa!)

    Thanks for the nice photo's!!!

Really enjoyed the part about the metal work on it... Amazing what you can do with your bare hands!!!

The Britten is just as impressive... Seen it at Te-papa a few times... Must say I always have time to look at the handy works of Mister Britten(Maybe a Sir in NZ terms... )

I see the sign says genuine article though. If it is it looks like its been restored nicely - who can remember who has it but someone in the South Island owns the real bike now?

I've attached the photos of the film replica that was on display at Te Papa last Christmas in case you missed it. Photos courtesy Mrs merv's camera. It was made to look ratty and they said it wasn't the one that did the actual runs on the film, they had another one for that - this one was just for the close up filming. If Burt's bike really looked like this imagine running over 200mph on it.

A member of my whanau who knew Burt reckons that when Burt returned from his last sortie to Bonneville, he only brought the motor back. The frame was left in the states, and I would guess no longer exists.
