Reporting near miss/dangerous driving

Could someone give me all the steps for reporting someone and how long after the incident I can do this?

A large 4WD changed lanes when the car infront of then slowed. I was behind/beside them and had just started to acclerate past them when they changed, indicating a split second beforehand causing me to brake to avoid collision. I got their license plate number.

Best it to report it straight away, call *555 and lay your complaint with them. Good luck !

If you call *555, the owner of the vehicle will only get a letter telling them to pull their head in. same as if you go to the online site as mentioned above.

If you really want action, go to your local copshop and fill in all the forms and lay a official complaint.
Sure the police are busy, but you never know they may just call on them and talk to them in person.

Or contact Scumdog, bykey cop, Spudchucker and see what they have to say on the matter.

You can if you wish lay a formal complaint but at the end of the day the driver will not be charged because it will come down to your word against his/her. From what you have posted it's simple Roadwatch issue. Unless you have been physicaly threatened or have suffered from road rage there is not a lot that the police can do. Save their time for something more serious.

Honestly... if it happened how I think it did (from your explanation) you should have expected it. Not because its legal or anything, but people are that bad, and far worse. It also doesn't matter how right you were, you would have still been the one landing on your arse. Its all about defensive riding, and keeping yourself alive.

First, possibly you were in the drivers blindspot, they didn't see you, and you should have possibly slowed down, to give space to the wanker (ie, anticipating it), or speed up well before, and pass. However, that could have possibly put you into the same situation, with a different car.

As for ways to get him back... well, as others have said, there are methods, but take it from the other end, people here have got them, nothing has happened, and generally the person that gets it thinks it was some nana that complained

...

So... really... I guess its just part of biking really... not much you can actually do, short of hauling the fuck out the car the next time he stops...

Yet often it comes down to the cops word vs yours and alot of cops dont understand the meaning of Perjury .

Total waste of time in my experience. I have done this twice - the first time was after being overtaken on double yellow lines by a guy towing a trailer (I was doing 100kph at the time) who then stopped at traffic lights and came back and abused me - all because I'd LEGALLY overtaken him in passing lanes. The second time was to report the driver of a southbound BMW who had overtaken in peak hour traffic on blind corners, yellow lines and even in the face of oncoming traffic in northbound passing lanes.

In the first incident the guy denied everything so "we are unable to take further action" - meaning my word wasn't good enough, but I guarantee if a cop had witnessed it, the guy would have been done. In the second incident, all we got back was a letter saying the guy had been slapped on the hand with a wet bus ticket and told never to misbehave again - or words to that effect.

I've pretty much got to the stage where I don't bother reporting them now because it wastes my time and doesn't seem to result in anything happening.

And sAsLEX- what is purgery? Is that what bullimics do?

Its a real shame, back in the day most cops actually had a decent understanding of molasses and the day to day operations of sugarhouses.

Pffftt... arsewipes who can do no wrong always try and blame their actions on something else...anything else...,(like blaming a lying cop, who only calls it as they see it - which might not be right in your eyes but is right in theirs).

Thanks for all the relpies, I filled out the form on the police site. This sort of thing happens infrequently and has to be expected on a motorcycle, but normally I will just let it slide knowing there is not much I can do about it. But this time I was behind them for a while and managed to get a good look at their plates, so decided that for once that I should report it.

It does annoy me that some people think that they do not have to indicate (or not indicate enough) as they know what is going on around them but if they do not see you then put you in danger when otherwise you would have a chance to move out of the way.

'Bout all that can be done. The police letter will at least address their driving and all that can be hopped for is some improvement in the signalling. The old biker saying that everyone is out to kill you is not far from the truth. Just stay sharp ride as if you are the only one who knows what they are doing.
