    xl500 restore

Just been given a '82 xl500 - last of the metal tanks I think? It was running well when it was last kicked over 8 years ago so I'm told but I haven't seen the condition of it yet.

Anything I should do before I try and kick her over apart from the usual plugs, oil, filters etc?

I'd say in additon to what has already been said take the carburettor off and take the float bowl off it and give it all a thorough clean as after that time the residue fuel will look like shellac. You can buy CRC carb cleaner or equivalent to get rid of that stuff. Make sure the jets are clear.
    Cheers
