yeah man, first bike was one of those crash starting it should be a piece of piss, but failing that, check a wreckers, buckets & bits? shouldn't cost much? 10 squid?

Rang Suzuki for you, and they're an ex-Japan part now because Suzuki have not been sold one in NZ for over three years. As for alternative bikes, no idea. Part appears to be unique to the FXR model and not shared with others.

For a ball park idea I also asked about dirt bike kick start prices (since the design idea is the same between them) and those are in the order of $150-400

    Try a wrecker.

The FXR crash starts very easily using 2nd gear.

For the record the FXR kick start was an absolute **** to use, I only ever tried it once for experiments sake, and never did again. Far better to try roll start it if you have to.

    Definitely! Totally 2nd that!

Have found an approach which doesn't result in the loss of skin, etc, when I do use the kick start:
Stand beside said bike with it standing straight upright leaning against left leg with front brake on. Then using right foot, toes pointing towards bike so ankle is away from foot peg, a careful but solid kick is given. Be prepared to mutter under your breath if ankle strikes foot peg or foot slips off kick start.
