    Replacement exhausts

    G'day,

I live in the Canterbury area and just recently got a 2002 VN1500 Mean Streak and am keen to replace the stock standard exhausts on it. I intend to keep the stock ones complete and get the most out of sound of the big v-twin engine with new ones as the originals are barely audible.

Possible options as I see it so far are:

    1. Buy from USA via the internet eg Cobra or V & H.
    2. Get a local shop to import them in and fit.
    3. Buy locally made from various NZ manufacturers who say they make great quality products.

I would like to ask any forum members out there (whether in the area or not) what their opinions/ experiences of the locally produced product is like compared to imported. Also if anyone in the Canterbury area has any pipes made up by local people and some opinions please. Not looking at any other performance mods just yet. Will need to save more $.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Neptune mufflers,http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/member.php?u=646, http://www.neptunemufflers.co.nz/ , seem to be held in high regard by most!

Some fellow has Neptune pipes on his Guzzi in your area, but e is Dangerous...

That fellow with the guzzi will be here http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ad.php?t=34100 and would be good to go along and meet some of your locals...

    Thanks sAsLEX

Thanks for your info - much appreciated. I took a look at the neptune site you provided. The range looks good but not the appearance I was looking for to go on the Mean Streak.

I did some (long) searching on the www and finally located an outfit that used to be called Foren Pipes years ago in Christchurch. Now called Motorcycle Exhaust Specialists. They custom make mufflers and whole systems for modern and vintage bikes. There is a list of biking/racing big names who have used their products including John Britten. They also diversify into silencing systems for pumping systems etc.

Any Canterbury or further afield riders out there had exhaust work from them and if so, your feedback on their gear? Thanks.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
