Arrived in Wellington, urgent help required!!

Ok, we arrived on Friday 22nd and I have 2 issues requiring reasonably urgent info, if anyone can assist.

1 - Gent public toilets, pee through the grid or stand on it?

2 - More importantly, The apartment we rented in the city was not suitable for a 2yr old, so we are renting 50km north in Raumati Sands (Don't ask why it's that far!). Whilst this is a nice resort, it's 3 times the price of a standard apartment and we can't afford to stay here for ever!
We've scoured most of the websites and walked the city looking for furnished rentals, but nothing seems to be available. I am hoping someone has some info on a property around $400 week available soon, in about 20 mins commute to the city.

Other than that, job hunting is going quite well with a few leads, once that's sorted I'll be allowed to invest in a another 2 wheeled beasty. In the mean time, once I get settled somewhere I can start looking at social events, or beer to be more specific.

Thanks for any info in advance!

    Mike

    a) Stand on the grid.

    b) try www.trademe.co.nz for rentals, also the Wednesday and Saturday Dominion Post newspaper classified section.

C'mon Mikey - you told me there's no such thing as stress. Agencies are your best bet in terms of timeframe. Let them do the leg work.

You should be able to rent a house for $400 a week. Colapop, how much are you paying btw.

Anywhere south of Tawa or Belmont is 20min to town on a bike. regardless of the traffic. I can run a lane splitting course for newbies if you like. And I won't leave you in a ditch and come back 10 minutes later.

What kind of work are you after again?

I've followed him a few times. He's not too bad.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Yup - try trademe or today's Dominion post - plenty of reasonable rentals for <$400, we rent in Silverstream which is 25 mins away by bike. Guess the furnished part is making it difficult (is your stuff on it's way? we slept on airbeds from the Warehouse when we first arrived from the UK!)

Some of the real estate agents may be able to help too - We used these guys for our last place in Plimmerton: http://www.villarentals.co.nz/home.aspx

    Then current place through http://www.faulkeproperty.co.nz

All else fails stick a "Wanted to Rent" ad in Saturday's Dominion Post - couple of friends have found really decent places this way.

If I can be of help, drop me a PM

$350/wk - unfurnished. A quick trip to the Salvation army will fix that and then you can just donate it back to them once you're settled.

We are in a rental in Riverstone (Upper Hutt) .
Brand new place (unfurnished). 3beds, double garage etc + views $380 pw.
25mins or less by bike to the CBD.
There are others being built here for rental, so try Harcourts in Upper Hutt.

Central Welly is ridiculously expensive. The commute from the hutt can be traffic jam prone - tho trains are good.

Lower Hutt area is handier than upper Hutt and better serviced - I like it as its good for dogs and haseverything you'd ever need. Western hill suburbs of liower hutt are ok there for handiness as well.

For families Karori is quite a good suburb in Welly to rent in - community like, good amenities etc and also handy city - ?5-10 mins.

Going through newspaper to rent is far the best way as thru land agents you get extra charges - like a weeks rent as fee etc. Tho some are better than others and they can get you in faster (have good range of empties).
