Ok. I have been thinking lately that I don't want a late model sports bike because of the insane power these things put out. I have ridden bigger bikes than my 600F over the years but nothing this modern. So we can blame mouse for showing up on a 98 ZX9r and I had to take it for a spin. Little woman jumped on the back and after 0 minutes of testriding it on my own I found myself 2up. Pulled out of the driveway and twisted the throttle to tootle off down the road. First thing I noticed is this bike does not tootle. It lunched forward with a definite growl of "you better repect me or I will throw you and your girlfriend off the back"
500m up the road and the power is on and smiles are starting to get bigger. I thought I would wind her up to 200 to give the little woman a thrill but then I thought I better not cause it would get me in trouble and I best sit around the speed limit. Quick speedo check and found we were already doing 170. Oops.

Slowing down to 120 and it felt right. I could feel the weight of the bike dropping into corners but it didn't feel uncomfortable. Again, accelerating out of corners and the bike just wanted to let me know who is boss.

Trip home involved an accidental wheelie. First time ever I have ridden a bike that can pull the front up without trying.

I can see us touring on this. Little woman was very comfortable on the back.

Feels a little like I was cheating on my trusty steed but the 600F Vs the ZX9r couldn't get further apart in power/comfort/handling. The only thing the 600F has got better than the ZX9r is that I own it. That could change tomorrow.

The 98 and 99 model ZX9's are awesome!. Very under rated as a sports bike and you can pick them up quite cheap these days, I have seen them on trademe for as low as $7500 and it was a tidy one too.

I really wanted to test-ride one of these before I bought mine, but couldn't find one anywhere local Shame though, everyone who's ridden one seems to say they're awesome

Sounds like you had fun. They certainly go pretty good - I had a go on a mates a while ago - lots of fun Good luck with trying to decide to get one or not.

Doesn't your 600 lift the front a little under hard acceration two up. Mine use to alright.
Life is difficult because it is non-linear.

They're a good bike - I felt immediately at home on mine.

Trouble was it felt a little slow compared to the GSXR1000.....

looking at it really seriously now.

The 600 goes light in the front if you pin the throttle. Front doesnt lift though.

The 9r lifts. And throttle was no where near pinned.

When I first went from the 250 to the 600 I thought that I would never pin the throttle back cause it takes off. Now days I do it all the time coming out of corners. I really think I will never pin the throttle on the 9. I have approval from MTF to ride the bike away. Now I need to work out if I really need to be spending money on a new bike right now.

You should save yourself some worry and stress and buy it now. It's going to happen anyway
