Have you got some lap times from a reputable source to back that claim up?

the mrs has had her 5.7 auto wh statesman for about 5 years now, it has over 170k on the clock now & runs.. make that 'purrs' as well as when we got it. the engine is strong & had no issues. serviced every 10. mileage isn't bad either. all the electrics are still working well as are all the other systems on board. only thing was the crappy self levelling rear suspension it had which developed a leak so shocks were replaced with conventional type. long wheel base, it just soaks up the miles & bumps & is super smooth. it's an excellent family holiday car too(especially with the leather interior which is great for wiping off ice creams & lollipops. it can haul ass any time it's called upon which is pretty much everyday the way she drives. we live out of town a bit & the car has been thrashed day in/out down the backroads, potholes roadworks & uneven surface. the paintwork is still good & i was told by a panelshop that the finish was superior to the falcons. it's still holden together really well & i intend to keep it for another 5 years(originally bought it as a 10 year prospect & no regrets so far). good luck in the search..
    ..it's another red light nightmare..

Theyre both much of sameness don't you think?
Me ma has a BA XR6 and its good to drive, decent power and v. good handling miles better than the AU's. But get a XR6Turbo and i reckon it is incredible fun - autocar voted it best out of all the ford / holdens when first came out. And i tell you they are great fun to drive.
The Holdens are also great to drive and liek i said i think they are bloody similar to each other and can't see what the appeal is to all those die hard fans.

My opinion - I reckon what was said earlier about audis is right, i got an old A4 wagon to go surfing and its brilliant. Expensive parts but sooooo comfortable and it has superb handling You should seriously consider something like an audi or merc but dunno about bmw.

I guess it comes down to what you are looking for and what you like the looks of.

At any rate good luck with your search and i hope you find something that will suit you well.

    Frauds suck.

Had both a Falcon and a couple of commodores.
Bought the Fraud first and wouldn't touch one again. Random shit would just happen, like driving along and the rear view mirror falls off, and close the door and off comes the door handle, fume leaks - which I was assured was normal.
Do you like oil leaks on your drive? You would think that after 100yrs they could fix that aye, apparently not, I gather Fraud owners like that.
Cost me more to maintain that thing for a year than I spent on car repairs in the previous 15.

The Holdens have been very good. No problems with anything other than brakes. Not that they have failed, just needs new shoes more frequently than I would have expected.

Ask a few Taxi drivers what they think - if you can find one which speaks english that is.

I am in the car "game" and I say don't buy either. Research other options. $20,000.00 should be enough money....

We run a fleet of about 14,000 vehicles and although the trend is changing, the modern penchant for the kiwi executive is to drive a Ford Falcon or a Holden Commodore.

Part of my job is to investigate problems with vehicles from a mechanical/electrical perspective and I spend a lot of time with problem Commodores and Falcons. edit: to be fair more so with Falcons.

I would sum my experiences up by saying that both manufacturers are way too keen to get their product released first to spend any real time in development and testing. Hence the owner/driver gets to be the guinea pig. Which for the money you spend kinda sucks arse. Not to mention the close relationship you have to have with your local dealership. YAY.

I support my case (regarding development/testing) using Ford as an example and ask why they didn't sort out the water pump o-ring issue sooner. Yes I know it's just a $3.00 component, but FFS they should have sorted it out sooner. And don't start me with driveline vibes......

Taxi drivers won't touch a Commodore,90% are in Falcons.I think some of it is a comfort issue - one of my customers changed to a Commodore because he was sick of us spending $1000 on his brakes every year.He was only in the Commodore for 6mths because it gave him a sore back.Do 8hr shifts in one 6 days a week and you might change your mind too.
