    I had a 00 520EXC and it was a good bike.
You just have to keep changing the oil a lot more than most other Adventure type bikes and keep an eye on the tappets.

I would get the 450 if I was manly doing off road work, but if I was going to do road work I would go for the 525.
I'm a bit out of touch with the new 520-525 but are still sure that it applies.
The main down side to the bikes that you are talking about is that they do not have a lot of oil in their motors and they have no rubber damping in the rear wheel, which is not as nice to the gear box and chain.

They are a great bike and I would buy one again.
But I wanted to do a lot of road work and have longer and cheaper services so I changed to the LC4 motor.
The down side on that was I got about 30 extra Kg's to control.
    I can live with that.
Feel the fear and do it anyway
