    re the barber shop saga - I think its a double standard.

    A mens only place, where woman dare to tread....try Mustangs
    we used to have a womens only gym here in wangas...was like 3times the cost of a co-ed gym and recently shut down, likely due to lack of membership. id much rather go to a co-ed gym....i feel women are more likely to pick at the other members than men.

    we have barbers in my town...and id never go in and ask for a haircut! that would be stupid. thats mens territory. heaps of other hair places in town.

    Feminism can't be generalised. There are extremes, as with anything.

    * Amazon feminism
    * Anarcha-Feminism
    * Anti-racist feminism
    * Black Feminism
    * Chicana Feminism
    * cultural feminism
    * Difference feminism
    * ecofeminism
    * existentialist feminism
    * feminism in Japan
    * French feminism
    * individualist feminism (also known as libertarian feminism)
    * lesbian feminism
    * liberal feminism
    * male feminism or Pro-feminist men
    * Marxist feminism (related to socialist feminism)]
    * material feminism
    * New feminism
    * pop feminism
    * post-colonial feminism
    * postmodern feminism which includes queer theory
    * psychoanalytic feminism
    * radical feminism
    * separatist feminism
    * socialist feminism
    * spiritual feminism
    * standpoint feminism
    * third-world feminism
    * transnational feminism
    * transfeminism
    * womanism

    And my personal favourite...

    * pro-sex feminism (also known as sexually liberal feminism, sex-positive feminism, do me feminism)

    Can we pick n' mix? I'll have libertarian, eco, existential, with a side order* of pro sex then, please.

    Professional sex on the side. Goodness, is this appropriate for a librarian? 'Twas bad enough the police woman moonlighting thus, now I see she's started a trend.

    Those who insist on perfect safety, don't have the balls to live in the real world.

    Please PM me if you are seriously interested in joining Contours. I don't see why the hell not, there is no difference. We can finalise details via PM.

    I was actually being serious for once. The world has become so PC it seems that white middle class males are the most discriminated against these days.

    Still, I'm happy. There are bigger things to be concerned about than this IMO.

    Her actions bring shame on us. Human rights are there to invoke over serious matters. Barber shops are traditionally male - what makes her think she can overcome hundreds of years or whatever of custom.

    I walked by a barbershop in Lower Hutt and was short of time so impulsively ducked in to ask for a cut just lately. They declined because"sorry we only do mens cuts". No problem - that is and should be their choice I thought as I turned tail and walked out. I was not traumatised - did not feel my human rights were violated, after all I knew it probably might be just for men, but had thought I'd try it out and see as a quick cut woulda been convenient. Cos sometimes you must wait days to get into a salon round here.

    What will this woman do if she ever encounters any real injustice - blow a fuse? Besides I thought shops were private property and you could put a trespass order on creeps. I hope the barber does that on her.

    A guy telling me the other day he was refused orchard work and the reason given was that he was Iraqi. Did he go to human rights commission. No - he said "don't want to work where I'm not welcome" and got a job at dry cleaners instead. IMO this woman is a Rosa Parks without a real issue.

    No support on this one - she just increases the considerable animosity toward women here in NZ that Helen Clarks existence has bought about.
    Whining about nothing.

    BTW - toilets are unisex in some countries.

    We have them here already in Auckland... to name but a few:
    Western Springs Park - (a few of them near the kids playing area)
    Henderson - Railside Ave (near the court House)
    Te Atatu Peninsula (down by the beach)

    I am sure that there is many more of them around NZ.......

    Hey!

    I guess I'll have to ask the question here to get my "legal beagle" response

    What does one need as "proof" of being denied entry/access to a public facility based on ones gender? I want equal proof/rights as that "woman" who was turned away from the barbers shop. Do I need to take someone with me to film the rejection? Must I ask for a written refusal (not like they would...) Would a cellphone audio/video clip be necessary, or do I just need my word? (with regards to having a similar case as that "woman", if/when I join a "woman" only facility)?

    PM is preferred...

    Age from 18 to 25?
    That would be good. I am about a BMI 19.
