    80KMh zones albany/auckland

So whats with the big increase in 80KM/H zones in Auckland -Albany area? Half the east coast road is now 80Km/H and still screwed up from all the poor seal repairs. Albany to riverhead is now mostly 80 Km/H. Is this the new growing trend? Its a pain in the arse - a road that was entertaining at 120-130 is now a license looser. Not the best roads before but nice and local.

Yeah I noticed how the Coatsville/Riverhead area has been reduced to an 80kph zone a few weeks ago when I was out that way. It's really crap as you said, that road was quite enjoyable at a 120/130kph pace, it's pretty boring at 100kph. Oh well, wasn't the best of roads and there are some tighter stretches close by which have always been an 80 but are actually quite fun at 100 or so - Ridge Road I think it's called, the top half closer the Albany side.

As long and Coro and other twisty routes up North stay at 100kph, I'll be happy.

Yeah I guess you just gotta pick your roads, keep having to travel further and further away. Maybe thats the idea behind them. Makes it harder to go for a quicky after work before it gets dark.

Ridge road is awesome twisties but not the best seal on it. Good practice though.

I usually go from Albany to Riverhead via the highway, yes which is now sadly 80 and then to the Peak and Kaukapakapa and back to Albany through SH 17. Love the route nice ride

Anyone heading that way for a ride perhaps over the weekend, PM me

    Cheers

Albany Heights and Wright Road are two others in the general area which you can enjoy around the speed limit, they both have above average seal quality too.

I rode through Ridge Road this afternoon travelling around 90 kmp/h and had a moment with a Land Cruiser that backed out of a driveway and the driver didn't see me until the last minute.

A good point about those roads if you are going to frequent them - they are primarily full of drive ways which go to lifestyle blocks which are owned by ignorant SVU and BMW owners.

They have really rooted East Coast Bays Road, used to be a nice bit of high speed roadage, now its covered in gravel and fulla pot holes. Seems to be taking ages to finish the pipe laying...bastards!

80km/hr roads are going to spread around the country. Get used to it.

Thats what worries me, how long before the corromandel and other popular biker roads get the treatment? Is it beacuse of bikers or too many car accidents? Or just the road safety issue getting out of hand? Hate to think that its people complaining about bikers that get the decision makers all fired up and planting those signs up. Time to get a track bike.

Nothing wrong with riding along at 80km/hr. Gives plenty of time to smell the roses and count the new born lambs. Well, I find 80 a nice speed, any faster and one gets lots of strong head wind, cages don't overtake and have to concentrate more on what the engine is doing.

    The world will turn.

At the moment the Govt. has motorcyclists on it's hitlist. Motorcyclists while still a minority are growing as a percentage of the population. There will be more and more people on 2 wheels and it's only a matter of time before a prospective government realises that motorcyclists vote too!

Encourage people who only want to buy bikes for economic reasons (I've heard them getting slagged off by the purists on here) they will be allies in the future...alternatively we could vote Spank for PM...then we'll see all the new 80 zones eradicated once and for all.
In space, no one can smell your fart.

Thats cool, no one's stopping you from doing 80, don't see why the rest of us should have to do that speed though.

Those long straights just off SH16 on old north road are 80 now as well. Thats just taking the piss.

Anyone got contact details for Hone Heke? I've got a new assignment for him.

Why? Some sticky labels saying "100" is all that is needed...
