    "Anywhere, Anytime..."

Now there's something I don't see every day. In fact, err... I don't recall ever seeing this.
Riding to work this morning, there's a bike cop parked off to the side of the Highbury Bypass, with one of them there laserbeam thingos, looking up the hill to see what he could see, to see what he could see, the bear went over the mountain, the bear went over the..... sorry.
    Where was I?
Oh yeah. Being a motorbicyclist, naturally I was on full alert mode (natcherly) and I saw him the instant I came around the corner. Naturally, being a COOL DUDE (despite what my kids say), I had my Bolle sunglasses on (natcherly), so he was unable to laserbeam me. And naturally, being a law-abiding motorist (natcherly), I wasn't speeding and so I slowed down and gave him a friendly biker wave.
Of course, this was an ACCIDENT BLACKSPOT, so now we are safe from accidents involving marauding aliens or whatever, protected as we were by Mr Bike-Plod and his ray beam.

I guess this was just an incident of the "Anywhere, Anytime" campaign, because there was no backup, I think there was no intention to pull anyone up (unless maybe they were doing a trillion times the speed limit) as it would have been impractical in rush-hour (WHY DO THEY CALL IT THAT?!?) traffic.

Nice to see our tax dollars at work.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Are you being paid to write this peice? From recent experience I have found it to be a touch unwise to give any traffic enforcement police the benefit of a doubt.

Well, I guess I am, effectively.
I... errrummm... wrote it at work, while being paid, ostensibly to do something else. Like write stuff.

Hmmmm. Wish I had *your* job.

Was that a Minimi, then? 5.56mm... $1100... about a dollar a round, was it?

What does the army pay for its ammo? Cheaper, more expensive, or much the same as commercial stuff?

Well that would be friggin stupid. Where he was parked was just before the traffic lights - it would've caused far more hazard to road users than any creeping over 50km/h down the hill would've done. As it was, I think him standing there caused traffic consternation. You know how D'Auckland drivers react to anything out of the ordinary - just freak out completely, slow to a crawl, meander all over the road, crash into each other...

Yep, nothing like getting paid to shoot and blow shit up. Before I joined the Territorials paying tax use to piss me off but now I don't mind at all as I've probably spent it 10 times over !!
Yes its an LSW C9 like in my profile pic (aka Minimi / M249 SAW). 0.55c a round I've been told.

and um you ask for inteligence?
Best i saw was a speed camera car on a north shore onramp. Hmm let me think here uphill ,merging traffic and a speed camera --very safe combo

Don't moan about this sort of policing. This is just what they should be doing with our tax dollars! Standing out fully visible in urban areas, near intersections where most drivers display piss poor driving habits and, surprise surprise, thats where most crashes occur. I've seen bike cops doing this around Welly lately and I give them a wave of approval. Its the hiding behind bushes and speed traps on open roads and passing lanes that stink. Give em a supporting wave next time and remember, while the HP are keeping our residential streets safe we can relax a bit more on the open road next time we blast pass that belging diesel truck spewing sheep shit on our visors .

Well, hey, Mark - I wasn't complaining. I'd rather this than cops hiding in the bushes, where it has no effect at all on people until they receive a ticket. At least this keeps everyone on their toes, and if he was ticketing people, it'd be the dozy drivers.

Sorry Firestormer I could've worded that reply better now I re-read the posts.
Well done giving him the friendly wave. Twice last week some dickheads sailed through a round about, not even making the slightest look to his right, let alone having any intention of ever giving way to his right, forcing me to brake hard and that in turn cocks up everybody else who is expecting me to proceed ahead. It times like that you curse "where the hell are the cops when you want one" So its great to see them getting visible where I reckon most poor driving habits start- in town.

'Salright, Mark. I didn't take any offense, and didn't think you were going
Asamatteroffact, when I saw the cop this morning, my first - no, prolly fourth thought was "Hmmm... should write summat in KB about this". Trouble is, I wasn't sure what I thought/felt about it, so I wasn't sure what angle/tone to take.
My first thought was "Hah! I'm not speeding!"
Second was "I'll give him a wave.."
Third was "Huh. He didn't seem to notice. Mebbe he's fallen asleep, mesmerised by his own laser..."
    ... and that's what I think.

That looks like an awfully acurate optical sight for a "saw".
