    Wairarapa day out

Thanks heaps Lynda for organising yesterday's excursion for some Wellington KBers and assorted hangers on. It made for a pleasant change answering the phone at home on Saturday night from the more usual callers selling African orphans or wanting to know which bank gives me the worst jock itch...

The weather was terrific as was the company and scenery. A new road discovered too, which is always a plus.

A new place of culinary purveyance discovery too for the Hitchers -- the "Wild Oat" at Carterton. Great food and coffee, and the log-fire-heated attic a good plus for those unable to shake Jack Frost from their privates (no, Genitalia is not the Italian airline...), not to mention good offstreet bike parking.

Good banter amongst the assembled hordes. There were a few contenders for best line of the day:
"I didn't exceed the speed limit -- by more than the speed limit..."
"Hamish can tell you all about the dent in my tank..."
"I won the Golden Homo award because my bike was too pretty to ticket!"

Thanks Lynda and everybody else for a great day out.

Lynda tell us more as I'm sure Hamish isn't going to post it here.

    Very new Monster
    South Island trip
    First night, Geraldine, Motel
Hamish parks bikes out of sight round corner on grass.
Checks them and says "yeah, they'll be fine"
    No round side-stand dooferies
    4.30am
I get up to have a pee
    I look out window
    Only Hamish's Beemer there
I scream (Deano: louder than for Mr Spider)
I run outside in nightie screaming "my bike's been stolen" or words to that effect
In blind "it's been stolen" panic I don't see my bike on the ground for at least 30 seconds
I'm just so glad the bike's there that I can't possibly be cross with Hamish for it falling over. What's a small dent in the tank???

Glad you and Mrs Hitcher enjoyed the ride.

After all of this performance there needs to be some sort of "arrival ceremony" for it -- maybe something involving naming or circumcision??

Sorry Hitcher - christenings and circumcision are very un-pc now - how about a powhiri and piss-up?
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.
