    Bring back the stocks??

Maybe this should be a poll?
This follows on from the thread about fencing off the bridges to stop dum shits chucking stuff at vehicles and the sentence one of them got yesterday.
I reckon its time we got a bit less PC with some of these sentences - if we brought back the stocks and for the first few days of of their sentence these young delinquents were put in them, a ready supply of non lethal projectiles was provided to throw at them and a sign beside explained what they had done and why they were there.
Surely this sort of public humiliation would take away all the elements of "cool" that these deadbeats crave - much better incentive to not do something like that again than home detention or community service or even a short jail term.
I think it would have the desired effect or is that just my red neck showing?

The reason for this post on a bike site is that if others start doing the same then amoungst this group they'll start a points system based on the difficulty of hitting the target - trucks get a low score - guess what gets the highest score

Do you mean "The reason for this post being in the bike section"??
If you mean being in the bike section, then fair enough.

If you mean posting something other than bikes on a bike site, then don't worry. This is a public forum, and you have the right to post whatever you want on here. If this is what you meant, then the only suggestion I'd have made is to put it in the "Rave On" section.

Anyway... I wouldn't have any problem pointing and laughing at felluh's in da stock ey, that's where they belong... (and no, they shouldn't be allowed to wear their hoodies and skew caps!, give 'em sunscreen lotion instead)

I used to have a nice locking set in my old flat, but I gave them away when I moved.

    They aren't difficult to make.

Good idea, bring stocks back, but make the objects lethal on the 2nd or third day.

    Hear, hear

Cheaper than locking them up, more effective, more satisfying public humiliation

and not just for young delinquents

I'd use them for the dickhead driver of a remuera tractor so busy chatting on his cellphone that he ran me off the road the other day.

    Yes, agree.
A few days and nights in the town stocks would be a wonderful thing for some of our society.
I would like to nominate a few MP's for a trial basis...

I still say drop them all on Auckland island and leave them there to fend for themselves.

Apart from transportation costs - no burden on the tax payer and law abiding people.

Okay - ManDownUnder has a better suggestion than me - at least I'm big enough to admit when I'm wrong.

Heads and hands in the stocks, trousers round their ankles, put 'em in a darkened room on K' Rd.

do you think it would make a difference to these delinquents doing it again?? compared to current penalties(?).
I think public ridicule would be more effective than the PC crap ruling at the moment. We might have to provide masks for the people throwing the stuff at them, so they can't intimidate old ladies and others who might be too scared they would remember them and get even later.

Yup - I am 100% certain that public disdain would work.

It's peer pressure in reverse... but first to come and visit would need to be those that would shame them most. Make sure family and any Kaumatua or Ministers they've have involvement with come along too.

Shame is a wonderful thing, most effective when well deserved, and served in a big pile from someone you respect

Nice idea Mohammed - but do we really want to adopt Sharia Law in NZ?
