What do you mean 'getting' old?
What do you mean 'getting' old?
Is this another variation on the old noisy pipes argument? (If you want to show off go and buy a Harley).
Personally I'm not convinced that aftermarket performance pipes offer any significant gains over the standard jobbies, other than a bit of weight loss. Seems to be an expensive way to add a bit of noise. Tweaking the EFI, EMU, carburation, might be a better bet.
I like to have as quiet a bike as possible (is that an oxymoron with an aircooled 2 valve four stroke?). The less undesirable attention I create the better. I'm pretty sure the neighbours wouldn't be best pleased if I were to run a noisy pipe.
Lou, I thought pair systems were for American market ? that might be your problem as i asked before, a restricted Bandit ?
In 1997 when the Bandits arrived, pipe and jetting was standard practice to unleash 15 BHP or more. Bandit sites in the States are full of talk regarding popping and cackling on the overrun, its quite normal.
Keep up with the pills and ointment you'll pass through this phase Gaz.![]()

Popping and banging on overun is usually excess charge in the pipe being ignited during exhaust strokes. With the timing being picked up from the crank end on most bikes they also spark on the exhaust cycle. My old bandit did it with a yoshi pipe and got worse as I richened the mixture. Mine was a 98 model and they advertised around 108 HP standard. Obviously they were well restricted by the origional can and just fitting the yoshi can gave me (ping) 12 HP more.
If you love it, let it go. If it comes back to you, you've just high-sided!

I've been looking at various mufflers recently and I thought it was interesting that on the euopean websites, there was a clear distinction between the road cans and and race cans - but elsewhere (US etc) all you can get is race cans.
The EU really are noise nazis, be thankful you can use your race can on the road here without being stopped every 100 metres by the fuzz.
Just buy the schubert Lou, you won't hear a thing again!!!!!
Surely a good re-mapping to make it run a bit leaner would stop all the popping and banging??? It is only unburnt fuel exploding in the hot exhaust isnt it??
Queiro voya todo Europa con mi moto.... pero no tengo suficiente tiempo o dinero.....
I go with that, noisy pipes do just that, make a noise and o.k. possibly give you a bit more power that you`re un-likely to notice on the road anyway without other major mods and a total disregard for speed limits.I speed regularly and get away with it,a bit of discretion and not the equivelant of my bike screaming "BLOODY HELL,LOOK HOW FAST I`M GOING" helps me get away with it.When I was a lot younger ans saw things differently I ran a totally un-silenced XS650,sounded like Armageddon and turned heads everyhwere it went, also got on my nerves after 15 minutes and got painful after 30.
People feel the need for loud pipes for a reason,an old pair of socks stuffed down the front of the boxers is a far cheaper alternative.
I haven't dynoed myself but copied what several yanks and poms have done. They all had readings of 140 to 150. By the feel of it ( my arse dyno ) I reckon a good 140 plus ? Still on the 1157 bore. The biggest difference was the 27 kgs I removed from the chassis.
( I still have the shock and springs I got off Pixxie )........ Gaz.
