    Road Rage

    What the hell causes this?

What causes some kid in a BMW to beat the snot out of an elderly man?

Would the same kid have tried to beat the snot out of me...when he figured I was maybe a bit more competition than an elderly man?

Is it possible the Greens are actually right and that sundry chemicals in our food are driving ever-more folk to simply lash out like savages?

How do we account for this in a so-called civilised society?

How do we explain this and adults beating children, putting children (babies, no less) in a drier for the adult's entertainment?

How do we explain a woman punching a five-month old baby in the head?

Is road-rage something unique, or is it an extension of what is becoming an ever-more bestial, careless, or perhaps even frightened society? A society which feels imprisoned yet helpless?

Road-rage is not limited to the low-lifes. It seems to be pan-socio-economic.

What causes the driver of the flash car to pull over to inhibit a lane-splitting biker? What causes a cager to dial *555 to report a biker merily lane-splitting?

What causes an otherwise ordinary woman to scream invective at another cager just trying to get from one stream of vast traffic into another?

I'd be keen to learn of your experiences, both as recipient of and progenator of road-rage.
    Only 'Now' exists in reality.

If i'm not there in 6 start without me !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

Seems to be more common in big cities than rural NZ. Maybe because of the higher density of traffic leading to more confrontations? But then, why aren't there more bystanders to intervene?

I like to think that if something similar to this attack happened in my neck of the woods, someone would intervene.

Thanks for a reference to a non-road rage crime several hundred miles away.

Seriously, if you read kb threads, most of the rage is coming fom Auckland, isn't it? Probably most posts come from the cities, too; but it still sems out-of-proportion. I haven't had to post up about any road encounters from my many recent rides.

I think people are too anonymous in cities and act in a resultant manner.

I can see a connection between all of these incidents..

He's a cock that isn't looking where he's going, or using his mirrors before changing position in the road.
Or, he's jealous that someone is getting home before him.. rather than sitting in a cage holding him up.
It's only when you take the piss out of a partially shaved wookie with an overactive 'me' gene and stapled on piss flaps that it becomes a problem.

My thoughts exactly. So many witnesses but nobody to help the guy? But apparently some people did intervene - it just happened so fast that the serious injuries were already done.

I guess more will come out when it all goes to court.

A bit extra disturbing for me as it's on my regular commuting route. I was nowhere near it at the time, but it just makes it that bit more 'real'.

I suppose passive resistance didn't work too well this time around.

But, poor jokes aside, you are correct - it is a disgrace to have to read about such occurances in the news.

However, the NZ standard for road-user competence is enough to drive anyone out of their skin... That's not to say that there is ever an excuse for inflicting bodily harm onto someone else for any other reason than self-defense.
It is preferential to refrain from the utilisation of grandiose verbiage in the circumstance that your intellectualisation can be expressed using comparatively simplistic lexicological entities. (...such as the word fuck.)

The dumb fuck who murdered the 78 year old amazingly seems to have made it to 27 years of age without learning any of the absolute basics. You would have thought that to survive to that age he would have had to learnt something. Sadly he didn't even learn to repect his elders.

You can be sure that he had other things on his mind contributing to this extreme and disproportinate action. It is a real shame that he didn't choose to take out his frustrations on someone able to fight back and give him a lesson for his future.

I hope he meets many fellow prisoners with elderly relatives in the not too distant future.

The road seems to bring out the worst in people. I know it has with me in the past. I feel I've come a long way recently, but from my honest experience road rage comes from dark places in our own lives that we have not truly faced up to and dealt with yet. It is a lot easier to keep them repressed when we are not on the road, but driving has a way of bringing those things right to the surface, and until we face those things in our own lives and deal with them, we will continue to struggle with road rage, regardless of how good or bad the driving is around us.

People's stupid actions will always upset us, especially if they put us in danger but to go to the extent that this guy has shows there is something seriously wrong inside that guys mind.
What you have in your heart will be revealed through what you have in your life.

If things are going badly in our circumstances, the answer to what is happening to us outwardly is more often than not found in the mirror.
