No. You can NOT have her as a pet. You already have one , that's enough.

When I was 16 (37 now, so 21 years ago) I was drunk driving at 11.00pm at night, I had no drivers
licence, and was not wearing a seat belt. I got pulled over and breatherlised cos the cop saw me ride up on a curb as I went around a corner .... I only got a $25.00 ticket- and that was for no seatbelt! Which even then was not a lot to have to pay so yea things have changed.

at the tops normally a good place!
I had the soap box sorted, notes and bible in hand and I was all ready to climb up and start praying for a lightening bolt to save the ambo's the trouble of cleaning up the inevitable mess that seems destined in your future.
im peter pan, tinks lookin out for me. not even a divine lightening bolt or three will get me
Then I realised that no one else had contradicted/complemented/commented on your post, and I asked myself why. I figure it's 'cos they don't identify with it. You claim drink driving is NZ culture but the lack of response to this post and the general feeling from other posts seems to contradict that.
theres a lot of straight edge people on here. those who arent are less vocal as to not be seen as inferior
I've just come home after 15 years in OZ, and I know there are a few die hards (die early, more like) over there but I thought we were a bit smarter than this. It's dissappointing to find we are not.
you can only test for alcohol, nothing else, i could be frittered from a weeks worth of crank and pass a booze test. its not just the alcohol....... it affects some people worse than others to. like tiny little lesbians.....id put myself behind a hweel after a dozen rather than have her behind the wheel after half a dozen.
Oh yeah, apart from the sex/taxi thing....you got me beat on that one.

    Nothing wrong with this attitude!!

I lost a mate who I went to school with, then later met him in the RNZAF to a complete fuckwit who thought he was king while pissed.

When you loose someone close, your whole attitude changes. Personal choice for everybody, just don't make it your last.

Years ago, when I was only a learner rider I had a few drinks after my varsity course and they hit me harder than I expected (joys of drinking on an empty stomach) and I felt I had no recourse but to ride home (no money for a taxi and not prepared to leave my beloved bike parked up at the Uni overnight.

I rode like I expected the road ahead of me to suddenly stand bolt upright in front of me, watched every side road and driveway like a hawk and was super paranoid and super careful.

Decided, since my mates would all be there, I'd head for the skating rink and spend some time with them to sober up a while. Rolled down Victoria Street, skating rink was to my right and my mates were outside, stopped near the centreline, waited til there was no traffic and did a U-turn and parked the bike.

One of my mates then charged up and relieved me of my keys as I was drunk. "How do you know I'm drunk?" I asked. "Because you can scarcely do a U-turn in two lanes," he said, "you just did it in one!" (Told ya I was a noob at the time.)

Never been so shit scared when I was riding - and I paid more attention than I usually did when riding... now I strive for that level of attentiveness (without the fear) whilst sober.

Rode once more rather tiddly (the drinks I had tasted quite innocuous but had quite a punch) and since then have been very cautious about what I'm drinking when I'm likely to be riding my bike - fuck the "legal limit", I'm more concerned with possessing the co-ordination and reflexes to survive on the road with the retarded cagers than any concerns about tickets or loss of licence. They could double the legal limit tomorrow and it would not make any change to my current drinking habits. I also like to relax when I'm riding and process the incoming data smoothly. I do not do that when I've been drinking and know I'm impaired: I get ultra paranoid and overly cautious and so do not enjoy the ride.

Lost a good college friend to a drunk driver, had too many friends kill themselves whilst driving drunk - I know what alcohol does to the senses and reaction time, I know the worst-case consequences so I have no desire to attempt to operate a vehicle when pissed. As I'm not rich enough to pay for both a taxi and a vehicle transporter to get both me and my bike home, I stay off the sauce when I'm out on my bike or even likely to want to go for a ride.

To me it's not a hassle - I enjoy the occasional drink (been years since I've been shitfaced to the point of spewing and horrendous bed-spins, don't particularly miss either) but I enjoy riding my bike more. So when it comes to a decision between drinking and riding, most the time riding wins.

PF, sorry to hear you had such a crap night due to the retards at the pub. I'm of the live and let live variety - don't even get grossed/freaked out at gay blokes pashing - but I suspect there was more than a bit of homophobia behind the actions of those wankers. From their reported behaviour, I'd say they probably would have singled out someone else that night - based on the merest hint of "difference" - and done the same. I've met people like that, spoiling to take someone on so they pick on anyone for the merest excuse - your obvious orientation in your case, but it could just as easily be the "wrong" sort of clothing. I figure that if I wandered into that pub I'd get aggro from the same wankers because they feel like it and I wouldn't suit their style.
    Motorbike Camping for the win!
